Land of history, joyful traditions and delicious gastronomy, Mallorca surprises with its contrasts and diverse landscapes. Life at “Isla de la Calma” (peaceful island) goes on quietly, caressed by the Mediterranean breeze, a genuine marine and nautical flair, agricultural landscapes and charming towns and cities. Discover a paradise bounded by a 550 km. coastline of amazing beaches and “calas” and its prehistoric monuments, beautiful subterranean coves, cultural and leisure centres … Only a few km. away from preserved silent nature you can find the bustle of the trendiest bars. Their parties and nightlife are well-known in Europe. Because this land knows about tourism, since they first started in the 60’s their worldwide reputation has kept growing and has been a holiday destination for celebrities and Royal Families such as the Spanish, host of the Sailing Championship “Copa del Rey de Vela”.

Discover Palma de Mallorca, the cosmopolitan capital, extraordinarily attractive, where the historic ancient centre lives in harmony with the modern city, offering astonishing culture and gourmet cuisine, and its downtown shopping. Architectural gems such as the Cathedral, Palacio de la Almundaina, La Lonja or the Bellver Castle will make you feel that the journey is worthwhile.  Mallorca offers a wide range of activities for nature lovers, such as trekking, cycling, golf and water sports. The mountain range Sierra de Tramuntana, cape Formentor, the island of Cabrera … are some of the sites that should be “a must” on your itinerary. Mallorca: The island of calm

Drach Caves

According to legend, an enormous dragon escorted the entrance of this huge cave. Extending to a length of 2.400 meters and reaching a depth of 25 metres, this cave is divided into four areas, which were inhabited in prehistoric times, and are one of the most attractive touristic sites on the island.

The peculiar rock formation, the colossal size of their stalactites and stalagmites, the blue and green shaded underground lakes and the brilliant lighting designed by Carlos Buigas, are some of the impressive features. Lake Martel, considered one of the largest underground lakes in the world, extending to a length of 177 metres, is a remarkable venue for musical and lighting shows, where musicians, sail on a boat, playing Bach, Händel and Chopin music, and to top off this marvellous experience, visitors are invited to go across the lake on a boat, guided by expert gondoliers.

Enchanting Beaches

Mallorca, with over 550 km. of beautiful and diverse coastline, offers amenities to suit all visitors’ tastes.
During your trip, you will find touristic beaches such as Playa de Palma, El Arenal, Palma Nova, Magalluf, Alcudia, providing all sorts of facilities and services, surrounded by promenades with plenty of terraces, restaurants, shops, services and hotels.

However, Mallorca also offers incredible unspoilt isolated beaches, where you can enjoy nature at its purest state. Beaches like Ses Covetes, Es Trenc and Es Cargol will give you a chance to enjoy the Mediterranean Sea, as you have never done before. On the eastern Majorcan coast you will find a wide range of small secluded “calas”, where rock formations and silky sand blend in with the vegetation, forming superb landscapes.

Mallorca offers an outstanding number of natural and quiet spots, with astonishing views, where you can relax your body and mind, far from the hectic city noise.

Enchanting Beaches

La Seu: Palma's Cathedral

La Seu is undoubtedly a symbol of Mallorca and a must during your stay in Palma. Legend has it that King Jaume I departed Salou to conquer Mallorca. On the 7th September, a storm severely threatened his ships. The king begged God to rescue him from the storm and promised to build the most beautiful church in his honour when he reached the coast: Palma's cathedral.

THE CITY'S SYMBOL

Located in between the Almudaina Palace and the Episcopalian Palace, the magnificent Cathedral, also know as la Seu, stands on the site of an ancient arabic mosque. It is well known for its huge dimension, the gothic temple measures 109,40 metres, 40 metres wide and has the biggest mosaic in the world. The first kings of Mallorca were buried on this site.

GAUDÍ AND BARCELÓ, BRILLIANT CONTRIBUTIONS

The modernist artist Antonio Gaudí made some significant contributions to the Cathedral from 1904 to 1914, when he restored the interior of the Christian temple. More recently, Miquel Barceló, the Mallorcan artist, decorated "La Capilla del Santísimo" with a mural inspired by three passages from the Bible.

PARC DE LA MAR

For centuries, la Seu was the only Cathedral in the world that was reflected on the sea. This happened once in again in 1980 when the Parc de la Mar was built. The park offers a panoramic view of the Cathedral and the Palacio de la Almundaina

During the summer months, the city council organises "Cinema a la Fresca en el Parc de la Mar", where you can see films on a giant outdoor screen with a view of the Cathedral. A unique experience.

TOUR GUIDE

The Cathedral is a place of worship. Tourist tours are not allowed during mass. On working days you can access the Cathedral through the museum located on the north side.

Serra de Tramuntana

This is that other Mallorca, a refuge in the renown “Isla de la Calma” (quiet island). From Andratx to Pollença, the island offers the visitor much more than sun and magnificent beaches. We propose you hire a car and embark on a journey to the northern mountains, where you will find one of the finest nature reserves on the island, listed by Unesco as a World Heritage site.

Serra de Trauntana is a mountain range of approximately 90 km. long, surmounted by the peaks of Puig Major (1.445 meters) and Massanella (1.340 meters).  During your tour, you will observe challenging cliffs that rise from the sea, vast pine forests and genuine villages disconnected from massive tourism.  Exploring the mountains amongst the pine trees you will feel the smell of wild rosemary and the pleasure of breathing fresh air.

DISCOVER ITS BEAUTIFUL VILLAGES
During your journey through Majorcan essence, you will find enchanting villages such as Estellencs, Banyalbufar, Valldemossa, Deià, Sóller, Biniaraix, Fornalutx, Lluc and Pollença, showing you the quiet Mallorca, its charm, with its stone pavements, traditional farmers and markets, and fine gastronomy.
From scenic overlooks/viewpoints like Ses Ánimes and Son Marroig, the views are simply spectacular. We also recommend you to visit the Monastery of Lluc, spiritual centre of Mallorca.

We recommend you visit Ses Ànimes and Son Marroig, the views are just spectacular.

The magic creek “Ses Fonts Ufanes”

Not far from the chapel of “Sant Miquel”, in the village of Campanet, nearly every year a unique hydrological phenomenon occurs. In Rainy autumns and winters, as if by magic, incredible fountains of water flow out of the ground at the Finca Gabellí, they can reach a volume of 100.00 liters per second. They are the known as “Ses Fonts Ufanes”. This interesting phenomenon, which has been classified as a Natural Monument by the local Baleares Government is as impressive as difficult to see, as this only happens three to seven times a year, when sufficient water has been accumulated in the peak of Puig Tomir and surroundings.  For this reason, every time this wonder occurs, many spectators and excursionists visit the site to take photographs.

How do I get there?

BY PLANE
With over 22.768.032 registered passengers in 2013, Palma airport (PMI), also known as International Airport of Son Sant Joan, is the main connection point on the island for local visitors and especially for international tourists.
Located 10 km. away from Palma de Mallorca, the capital of the island, it is well connected with the main Spanish and European cities. The most important connections are with the cities of Barcelona, Madrid-Barajas and Düsseldorf, with over a million passengers, and Cologne, with annual traffic of over eight hundred thousand passengers.
For those you wish to travel to several of the Balearic Islands, there are connections between Mallorca and the islands of Menorca and Ibiza. Please remember that during high season, flight frequencies increase significantly. The countries with more traffic to the Baleares are Germany and the United Kingdom and also from mainland Spain.

Organised trips and packaged holidays
Charter flights are another option to travel to Palma de Mallorca. Please remember that this type of air tickets do not allow any date nor time changes. Some travel agencies like us, offer organised trips and packages that include flights, accommodation on half or full board, as well as transfers.

On arrival at Palma de Mallorca Airport, there is a bus stop and a taxi stand.

Public Bus
Line 1. It connects the airport with the city centre, the Paseo Marítimo and the Port.
Line 21. It connects the airport with Ca’n Pastilla and Playa de Palma.
Bus stops at the airport: Terminal: Arrivals. Floor 0.
Rates: One way ticket: 3 Euros.  Bus driver has change for maximum 10 Euros. The tickets must be purchased on board.
Palma has a good city bus service (EMT). You may check the schedules and itineraries on their website and app “EMT Palma” and “PMI Transit”. The latter also offers the underground and train information.
Information telephone number: 0034 971 21 44 44

Taxi Stand
Look for the taxi stand sign at the Terminal: Arrivals. Floor 0. Please ask for a receipt in the event of a possible claim.

Car hire
Although there is an excellent bus network that connects Palma with the main tourist resorts, villages, beaches and “calas”, the best transportation to move around the island is by car, which you can hire at the airport. Prices are higher during peak season.

Underground, trains, trams
Mallorca has one underground line and two railway lines, one goes from Palma to Sóller and the other one goes to Inca (and continues to Sa Pobla and Manacor). You will find the central stations at the“Intermodal” Station in Plaza España.
We recommend you take the vintage train to Sóller, then take the attractive tram that connects the village with its port and beach. The train station is also located in the centre of Palma, a few metres from Plaza España.

BY FERRY
From mainland Spain, Menorca or Ibiza. From Formentera you get to Mallorca via Ibiza.
I you like travelling by boat or perhaps you don’t like to fly or even if you prefer to travel with your own car, this means of transport is a good option. Ferries depart from Valencia, Denia and Barcelona. Roundtrip tickets are cheaper.

BY CRUISE
Numerous Mediterranean cruises stop in Mallorca every year. Its capital is, with over a million passengers a year, the fifth European port with the most traffic.
