Germany, 9 Days · Tailor-made, fully flexible travel
This fantastic railway journey gives you the chance to discover three of Germany's most attractive and vibrant cities: Munich, the capital of Bavaria; Stuttgart, the capital of Baden-Württemberg; and Frankfurt, the most populous and important city of the region of Hesse. Munich is a city with oodles of history under its belt, but which masterfully fuses tradition with modernity. Its pivotal epicentre is none other than the famous Marienplatz, which features three of the must-sees on any visit here: the Neues Rathaus, the Altes Rathaus and, of course, the Column of St. Mary. Other of the many attractions in Munich are the Cathedral, the Theatine Church and St. Michael's Church (in terms of religious art); its array of spectacular gardens, such as the Englischer Garten; the Deutsches Museum; all of its art galleries; and the Glyptothek Museum, to name just a few. And as one of the brewing capitals of the world, you can savour a huge selection of beers here, which obviously taste even better when accompanied by a typical Weisswurst, a Bavarian-style white sausage served with lashings of mustard. Car enthusiasts and petrolheads will love BMW Welt, which provides a fascinating insight into the history of the prestigious car manufacturer. And then it's time for the quintessential 'all aboard' to cover the distance between Munich and Stuttgart. Sit back and admire the stunning scenery of Germany as it passes by the window until you arrive in the capital of Baden-Württemberg. Nicknamed the City of Engineers, Stuttgart is one of the most visited cities in Germany, with the world of motoring undoubtedly being one of its biggest attractions. After all, it's home to two true icons of the motor industry, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche. You can visit their respective museums, which include exhibits such as the world's first ever petrol-powered vehicle. The Schlossplatz is the heart and soul of the city, where you can admire the Neues Schloss, the last great Baroque castle in Germany, and the Altes Schloss, home to the Württemberg State Museum. Between Königstrasse and Calwerstrasse is an array of stores and shopping centres, while the largest and most iconic of its many urban parks is the Schlossgarten. The next stop after another breathtaking train journey through the German countryside is Frankfurt, a major urban centre ever since the Middle Ages. Today it's an ultra-modern and very beautiful city with one of Europe's most attractive urban profiles, nicknamed the Frankfurter Skyline because it boasts some of the tallest buildings on the continent. Frankfurt's historical landmarks are centred around the reconstructed old town on the Römerberg and include the Römer (City Hall) and the Kaiserdom Sankt Bartholomäus (Cathedral). Another of the city's strong points is its wealth of museums, some of which are the best of their kind in Europe. The Jewish Museum of Frankfurt, the Städel Museum and the Kinder Museum are just three of the must-visits. Experience the very best of Germany by visiting Munich, Stuttgart and Frankfurt.
