Despite being a historic hotel and a little outdated, it is actually well maintained and has plenty of current amenities - much different than prior experiences I've had elsewhere. The staff was very helpful, and the food was decent as well. It is conveniently located and will definitely be on my list of hotels to stay at when I have to visit D.C. again.

“Great staff & ambiance, falls short on expectations for price”

The Mayflower is a beautiful and historic hotel with a PERFECT location for exploring DC and hosting conferences, as was my purpose for visiting. The staff is excellent and extremely kind; every member of staff that I interacted with was competent attentive, focused, and friendly. Also noticeably good was how fast the elevators were. The reason for my 3⭐️ review is that, despite this hotel’s high cost, it still felt like staying in a basic Hilton, except that Hilton’s usually have nicer towels. While my room (2 fulls) was very spacious and comfortable, it noticeably fell short on a couple of aspects that one would expect from a stay at a hotel of this caliber. First, the towels were thin and rough. C’mon, give the people something nice!! My old Target towels at home are much more pleasant to use. Also, they seem to have some kind of pluming issue—the water did not drain fast enough from the shower basin so I was standing in 4-6in of water for the duration of each shower. I called the front desk to ask to have someone come up and take a look, but the problem was not resolved. Additionally, in my bathroom at least, there is no bathroom fan or air freshener. Now, this isn’t an absolute necessity, but really improves the experience of a shared room and was noticeably absent in comparison to similar rooms I have stayed in at other hotels. A few other areas where the Mayflower could improve: 1) have water available in the lobby for guests to fill their own bottles or get themselves a cup, instead of having to ask the bar staff to fill them up for them. It’s summer, for God’s sake! 2) reduce wait times on the customer service line to the front desk. I called once I waited on hold for 5 minutes before hanging up and trying again.
