Overall I really enjoyed my visit. Pros: - Staff are professional and helpful - Resort itself is beautiful - Room was fairly spacious and in good condition - Pool and lazy river areas are both nice with plenty of seating and had cold water available in at a few stations - Gorgeous views from the terrace as well as several firepits which are great for cozying up nearby - Nice amenities including complimentary Native American morning ritual and sunset tequila toast (among other things) - Starbucks on site which was nice - Enjoyed all the flavored waters available throughout the day in the lobby - I don't golf but I know that's appealing for some people so I'll include it here Cons: - Must pay for parking in the garage or valet, or park along the street which they seem to discourage but everyone does it - Can only get towels for the pool at the towel hut located outside of the locked gate for the pool area, so if your towel gets soaked and you want to grab another towel you have to leave the pool area (take your key so you can get back in) and then go get another towel... they should really have a towel supply actually by the pool and lazy river so people can easily refresh with a new, dry towel if they need it - To be honest, I had breakfast, lunch, and dinner here (a couple meals at the Signature Grill and one by the pool) and I found all the food to be mediocre. I had 3 Mexican dishes and they were all incredibly white-washed and tame. The Mexican food in town was way better. I also had the worst margarita of my life at the Signature Grill and had to send it back. I would totally stay here again, but I would limit my dining at the hotel if I'm being honest. I also started grabbing extra towels from the towel hut after the first time when I realized they didn't have a towel supply past the locked gates of the pool area.

Booked a family trip to Tucson to go see the Saguaro National Park and do some hiking. After doing a bit of research, we decided to stay at the JW Marriott Starr Pass resort, to have the resort experience and be close to the park. We reserved “2 bedroom Signature Suite (bedroom one 1 king & bedroom two 2 queens) with Mountain View”. It was supposed to be 1760 sq feet and have a living area, dinning table with 6 chairs, and 2 bathrooms. Well, it sort of was and it wasn’t what was described. They put us in a fairly run down suite with an attached single room with 2 queens. Square footage wasn’t 1700 sq feet (probably 1000). The living area was not separated from the first bedroom so wasn’t as functional. The bathroom doors barely closed, locks were half-assed latches that were probably installed by a lay-person, and carpet was in horrible shape. As a Bonvoy member I had expected a much better product. Although the resort was only at 9% capacity (per some of the hotel staff), the shower would not be consistent with hot water - Luke warm at best leading to some freezing showers for at least 2 days of our 3 day stay! Pool was not exceptionally heated (although it was low to mid 60’s out). The service was just ok, and the breakfast at the grill was not the best - so we decided to eat at local restaurants the whole time and avoided the resort dining. We will not be back here for a family vacation again - probably at best a conference hotel, but not for a resort experience.

Our second time here but each time there has been an issue. During this trip, there were two couples. The couple with us paid for our meal the first night yet both couples were charged for all meals (billed to the room). There was also an 18% up charge due to the fact that we were a “large party”. Since when does four constitute a large party? Also, they had finished eating (on the open area outdoor patio) before we even checked into the resort and joined them. All four of us were there together for a very short time. The half dressed, drunk party next to us committing vulgar acts in front of everyone were an added bonus. Combine this with at times astronomical rates (not saying it isn’t worth it), and a DAILY resort fee of roughly $40 bucks, $35 valet parking and $35 breakfast, better bring your Bonvoy points!!

The location and facility is stunning however I was greatly disappointed by some aspects. The room seems outdated and the bed was the worse I think I have ever experienced at a hotel. I thought I was sleeping on a board and the pillows were flat. Most of our meals were eaten tje hotel most was meh at best. Some staff seemed helpful but most seems very aloof. I was pleased that there were hiking trails right across the street and enjoyed being able to do that without having to travel.
