The best part is that the Oak Steakhouse is on property, and the Oak Steakhouse is outstanding. Our room was a good size and the balcony allowed us to feel like we were camping in the trees, but in a luxury accommodation. I do feel that it is unfortunate that the Oak Steakhouse does not open for breakfast for the Skyline Lodge guests.

“Fun Quaint Frank Loyd Wright Era Property”

We loved the location and the vintage charm of the Skyline Lodge. The stone and timber structure is a quaint and charming example of the Frank Loyd Wright era and it was fun to be there. The lodge had plusses and minuses. Plusses: The staff was friendly and welcoming throughout the property. Marina at the front desk is a treasure! She was quick to ask about preferences and offer help. The Oak Steakhouse was wonderful, both food and staff, and the Oak Bar was spacious and comfortable. I would happily visit the bar for an afternoon cocktail, even if I wasn't staying on site. The centrally located former pool has been converted to a large outdoor seating area/fire pit and a great place to congregate if weather is conducive. Morning free coffee in reception was excellent. The room was not equipped with a bar frige, but Marina was quick to offer and bring in a very cute turquoise, retro portable frig that easily accommodated multiple bottles of wine and beverages, etc., and this was a perfect solution. You can request daily room refresh/cleaning. There is a large space surrounded with windows on the lower level for meetings or events. Minuses: No onsite restaurant/cafe/bistro (a small selection of snacks, nuts, chips, yogurt, etc available for purchase in reception) for breakfast or lunch. The Oak Steakhouse and Bar doesn't open until 4:00 pm bar and 5:00 pm dinner. There is really no place to congregate with friends/family on property if the weather is uncooperative. We met 2 other couples here for a mini reunion. Unfortunately, the weather was rainy and dreary. Sitting outside was not an option, and there was no place indoors on site to hang out and enjoy each other’s company. There is a very small, dark, windowless room on the 1st floor (the "Butler's Bar") but not very apealing. The inroom kettle was great fir tea but the coffee "sachets" were just OK. The free coffee in reception was excellent but not available until 7:30 am which probably works fine for most people. I am happy that we had the opportunity to visit this charming lodge. It is obvious management make a serious effort to offer a memorable and comfortable stay for their guests despite the "quirks" of a 1920's era property. For the money, we will probably investigate other options for our next stay, although we would definately revisit the Oak Steakhouse and bar.
