“Lacks Restaurants Near By”

The hotel needs a make over. The rooms need upgrading. The bathroom area's are in need of renovation. The air conditioner and heating are old school. The staff was helpful. The shuttle service was great. Sunday's breakfast was outstanding. Everything in the room worked as designed.

“Good for a Night”

Hyatt Place is not my favorite brand. Since the brand ended daily room cleaning, Hyatt Place has become the Vegas call girl of the lodging industry; good for a night but not suitable for anything longer term. My stay at Hyatt Place Tempe / Airport was surprisingly delightful. The rooms are very clean and recently updated. The shuttle driver — I believe it was Esteban — not only gave great restaurant recommendations but also dropped me off and picked me up after dinner. I believe they provide complimentary transportation within 3 miles of the hotel. The general manager was a real sweetheart. She explained to me why my initial room assignment sucked big time and upgraded me to a better room. Globalists should not check in online but should check in at this hotel in person to receive the best room available. My initial room was on a low floor, with a roof and air conditioner view, and nightmarishly loud due to being on the airport side of the building. Of course, this is one of the properties that is a rebranded AmeriSuites rather than being built as Hyatt Place from the ground up. Popcorn ceilings in the rooms and hallways are the tale-tale sign along with the tiny bathrooms that don’t allow for the door to be opened or closed while one sits on the toilet. I did mention the property is “updated.” the updates are tantamount to putting lipstick on a pig… insulting to the pig and the lipstick. They ripped out the bar sinks and updated the color pallet and fabrics. Still worst-in-segment as a brand and even less functional if that was even possible. Thankfully, the tiny bathtubs and shower curtains have gone the way of your grandfather’s rabbit ears TV antenna and been replaced with shower stalls. I chose this particular property because it has a the complimentary shuttle to Sky Harbor; however, this didn’t work out because the driver doesn’t come on duty until 5am., much too late for my 6am flight departure time during the holidays. Stay here for the amazing people but only for a night.

Consider another Hyatt property if you are bringing a car. The A/C was so loud we needed earplugs and the bed was on the firmer side, so unless you’re a hard sleeper, come prepared.
