The lodge’s breathtaking design immediately transports you to the 1970s nestled inside serene mountains of Highlands immediately erasing the stress of the city. The staff were friendly and added to the experience with lovely recommendations on how to make the most of our trip.

Beautiful property designed in the Frank Lloyd Wright tradition and the restaurant is incredible with some gorgeous views. Check in was a bit bumpy. The girl who checked us in neglected to see we had a package so I had to remind her to get our benefits....then we had specifically requested a 2nd floor and we were given a first floor room. She also entered incorrectly that we wanted cleaning service and so we didn't get it that first day....I had to go to the office and have them correct it. The room was comfortable and clean. The terrace was enjoyable but really needed cleaning, spider webs and lots of leaves that needed to be cleaned off.

We booked our visit to Skyline based on information online after we could not get rooms at the first few places we tried. The pictures on line look better than the reality. Check in is in a small room that doubles as their snack bar. We were given a room on the lower level and had to navigate several sets of stairs to get there with our luggage. The enclosed hallway where we took the stairs down to our room smelled musty and damp. The room was clean and very average but smelled musty like the hallway and the bathroom was quite small. The decor looked like they were going for a rustic look but it just looked plain and dated. Other reviews mentioned the very large pillows and it turns out they were right! The pillows are too big and hard to sleep on. The room was dim and could have used a couple of lamps. Again, the rooms were not terrible, just very average and clean. The outdoor patio areas look great in photos online but were not quite as nice in real life. The Oak Steakhouse restaurant on the property was a very pleasant surprise. The food was very good and it was crowded every night. All of the food we saw going out looked great and the menu was typical for a steakhouse but did offer a number of other entree options besides the steaks and chops. We had the dry aged ribeye, smashed red potatoes and Caesar salad. All were very good. The bread and garlic Parmesan butter were very tasty as well. The bar area was nice with views of the surrounding mountains and forests like the dining room. You can also eat outside on the patio. It definitely looked like many locals in the area frequent the restaurant and people we met in town mentioned how much they liked it. They mentioned the Sunday brunch specifically as quite good although we missed it. We would likely stay elsewhere when we return but would recommend the restaurant
