We stayed at a beautiful room in the pinnacles building near the Skyland lodge. The view out the window was beautiful as it overlooked the mountain rocks. Our bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet. We visited during the week, so maybe there was a little less foot traffic than usual. Our upstairs room had a very beautiful wood vaulted ceiling that made it feel like we were in a lodge. We ate at the Skyland resort’s restaurant which also has a great overlook of the mountains. The food and service was great! We also enjoyed the Skyland lodge check in area, as they have a beautiful fireplace there to sit and enjoy an evening. It was very romantic.

There are two main things going for this facility. There are two main things going for this facility. The first is the customer service; I think the concessioner does a good hiring job as everyone who worked there was contentious, efficient, and nice. The second is the view. If you stay, be sure to get a room with a view of the Shenandoah valley; some cabins are tucked away and don't have views at all. Other than that, the facility is pretty tired. The locks on the doors are difficult to operate and the doors don't fit right so there is always air streaming through the doors (biasing the thermostat). Cabins and lodges could use some paint and the dining room is tired. The food in the dining room is just ok, with the exception of the blackberry cobbler which is outstanding. The bar area is kind of gruesome and not at all cozy. Why are all the windows closed in the bar? You can take your drink on the patio if you request it in plastic. With my guess of over 300 people streaming through there daily, they do a good job, but it would be nice if the concessioner and/or the federal government could pony up a little for a face lift.
