My wife and I stayed in The Monaco in 2016 on our first visit to Seattle and so, when we were leaving from Seattle on a cruise, looked forward to staying in it once again. However, given the poor to terrible reviews the hotel was receiving at that time, we opted for another hotel instead. On arriving in Seattle prior to cruising we decided to walk to The Monaco to see if it was really as bad as the internet made out but were delighted to find that it was very much as we'd left it in 2016! Having told our story to the reception staff they took time to explain what had gone wrong (mainly during and due to a take over of the property but also with C19) and even showed us the rooms on offer. As we were due back in Seattle after our cruise we cancelled our second booking at the original hotel and booked instead with The Monaco. Great decision......we had four wonderful nights at the property and couldn't find a single thing even worthy of negative mention let alone complain about. The staff were just brilliant, friendly, engaging and very helpful while the food was excellent (the restaurant still has that wonderful feature open oven) and the Executive Chef came over to chat when she wasn't busy and to answer my numerous questions on ingredients, cooking methods etc.). Many thanks to everyone who made our stay such a great experience from Front of House right through to Housekeeping. We may never pass this way again but both my wife and I are so glad we made the effort to go back and check. Finally, and as my title says.......'We came as guests and left as friends'!

“Stylish, well-run downtown hotel that is great for vigorous walkers”

We wanted to spend a few days in Seattle in a combo of visiting family and acting like a tourist in a place we already knew pretty well. We took advantage of International Hotel Group's fourth night free when you use IHG reward points to pay for three nights. The rate seemed fair at the Kimpton Monaco, one of two Kimptons in downtown Seattle, so we booked it. It turned out to be a good choice. The hotel is well-located, within an easy walk to light rail to/from Sea-Tac Airport, to the monorail station to take you to Seattle Center (Space Needle, Museum of Popular Culture, and other attractions), to Pike's Place market, to the Seattle Aquarium, to ferry terminals, etc. One thing to watch out for is that downtown Seattle is quite hilly and there are paths to walk that can be rather steep and challenging, whereas other paths are more level and forgiving. Also, some streets can be scary with what look like strung-out and/or homeless folks, especially if you are unfamiliar with similar scenes in other urban cores. The valet or concierge can probably direct you to safe paths to walk. (Bonus tourist tip: we walked from the hotel to a nearby terminal at a pier to take a ferry to Bainbridge Island. The senior rate for the ferry is less than $5/person and there is no charge for the return. On a nice day, the ferry takes a beautiful, smooth 30 minute ride, with picturesque views of the Seattle skyline and attractive islands. Once on Bainbridge Island, you can easily walk to a quaint town with shops and restaurants, and/or take a bus or mini-van to explore beautiful parkland areas of the island for very little money. Highly recommended!) Like most other Kimptons, the Monaco is stylish and well-run. Our Platinum status was recognized and we were upgraded to a larger room, which is configured a bit like a suite--a living area with a comfy couch and coffee table separated by the bedroom area with wall touches and a curtain. In addition to upscale furnishings, wallpaper and fabric colors, cool, non-generic artwork hangs on the walls. The room includes the usual requirements (for us) such as a safe, mini-fridge, coffee-maker, and desk area. It also included bathrobes but we found these to be a bit rough and uncomfortable. The hotel lobby is impressive-looking and has plenty of comfortable seating, as well as a fireplace. The hotel serves complimentary wine during a happy hour and even includes bites of pizza. There is a restaurant attached to the lobby area that features a breakfast that is reasonably priced for a hotel restaurant. The front desk personnel were uniformly friendly and helpful. One oddity: the housekeeper on our floor seemed to treat the "do not disturb" sign we hung on our doorknob as an invitation to knock to see if she could service the room. On two occasions, she almost seemed to wait until we were in the room (with the sign on) to see if it was a good time for service. I don't know if this is a training issue but it was a bit off-putting.

“Incredible service at the Hotel Monaco!”

I had my dog with me, who was treated like royalty by an enthusiastic staff, and she had the cutest gingerbread man treats waiting for her in the room! I was in Seattle on business and had fast internet that was easy to connect to, and the bathrooms here are HUGE. The bath/shower alone is big enoug… more

I had my dog with me, who was treated like royalty by an enthusiastic staff, and she had the cutest gingerbread man treats waiting for her in the room! I was in Seattle on business and had fast internet that was easy to connect to, and the bathrooms here are HUGE. The bath/shower alone is big enough to have a towel rack inside while keeping the towels warm and dry. The restaurant had incredible food and accommodated treats I ordered for my dog. Plus, there was an in-room refrigerator for my leftovers and my dog's fresh food!

Seeing the Kimpton Hotels are classified as "Boutique," we had lofty expectations for our 4 night stay at the Kimpton Monaco, Seattle. Nicely appointed lobby. The rooms were nice & clean, but did not feel boutiquey or luxurious. The pillows were hard, and neither of us slept well, finding the King bed uncomfortable. The nightly Hot Chocolate in the lobby tasted like sweetened water with brown food coloring, while the Pizza offered was burned each time. The cocktails were a nice touch, but of the two non-alcoholic mixtures offered, one should have not been so extremely acidic & tart. We ate 2 meals at the adjoining restaurant for convenience & found the food & service lacking. Front desk forgot wake-up call.
