My mom and I had a wonderful stay at Kathryn Riverfront Inn. The staff was all so friendly and courteous, the food delicious for breakfast, and other accommodations superb. One desk attendant graciously offered me towels I love that the location is next to Broadway, within walking distance of the beach and tourist shops/restaurants. My only complaint was the hotel's dry sauna didn't heat up enough for me to get a benefit from. Another guest forewarned me about this, but I did not raise complaint to the staff, so my bad there. I used the pool, hot tub, and fitness center and they were all great. Highly recommend this hotel!

As a prelude to this review, my opinion is founded in a great deal of experience traveling worldwide for business and (never enough) personal racking up about 80 nights in hotel stays in 2024. Having maintained a schedule such as this for decades, the most meaningful aspects of a stay often times are wrapped up in very small details others may overlook. We didn’t want to stay in Seaside as with grown kids, it’s not our scene. Typically we stay in Cannon Beach or Manzanita but for New Year’s wanted to stay in Astoria until Kathryn Inn caught our eye during a TripAdvisor search. Their ratings were exceptional, pictures looked lovely so we decided to give it a shot. The property pictures are accurate. You walk into a lovely, warm reception area. The front desk staff is so welcoming. Bri checked us in and was delightful. There are diffused waters available as well as a hot chocolate bar with marshmallows and peppermints plus and hot coffee available. At 2:00 pm warm cookies arrive. At 5:00 pm cups of Ivar’s clam chowder await for hotel guests. Our room was nicely appointed. Toiletries are from PURE who I am not familiar with but scents are pleasant and product seemed decent. Two exceptionally plush and cozy bathrobes hang in the closet. The room was immaculate and very well kept up (no peeling chalking around the top, etc which I commonly see.). There is a Keurig in the room with Portland Roasters coffee and real creamers (even 5 star hotels tend to go cheap with coffee pods and give you powered creamer). We also LOVED the glass coffee cups with the Kathryn Inn logo on them (frequently supplied cups are paper these days.). There is also a very nice size refrigerator and a microwave, both of which came in handy. The balcony is very small, room for one chair, however it would be nice to have the door open when the temperature allows. We brought our dogs and when we checked in we were given two doggie treat bags with a reminder of expected pup etiquette plus dog treats and a poop bag. This is one of those “little” things which we felt welcomed our dogs as well and we appreciated. The pool and hot tub are located off of reception. We didn’t use these but saw many guests enjoying during our stay. Housekeeping cleans rooms during stays in excess of three days which is pretty much the norm anymore. This wasn’t an issue as the front desk has ample supplies of any needs you may have. The Kathryn Inn is ideally located. Doogers Seafood is next door. They have an adjacent bar called Iggy’s which is pet and children friendly. We found Iggy’s a bit pricey mind you but it is convenient. Nonni’s Italian is two short blocks and ice cream is located across the street. They have a beach is a few short blocks away. Breakfast is included and was delicious. Scrambled eggs were prepared to perfection as was the bacon (frequently undercooked or greasy at other properties.). Nice selection of breads and pastries, yogurt, fruit, juices. The linens on the bed are very high quality and the mattress and pillows so very comfortable. My only two suggestions, which are very minor in the whole scope of things mind you …. We found the experience Kathryn Inn delivered as nicely elevated. The bath towels were not in keeping with everything else. They are very small and pretty thin. (Silly I know). The other thing, instead of taking up space with a desk another chair might be a more useable idea. I appreciate the desk when I’m traveling for business, however when for personal do enjoy sitting comfortably in my room to read, etc. Two of us with a desk chair and one comfortable chair diminished the time we could relax in our room. Just a thought. Even a small bistro table with two comfortable chairs would have been better. I strongly recommend this very special property and am so thankful we discovered it.

“Barely average rating. Would expect at motel 6”

There was some black mold in the shower in the room up over the wall and where the shower meets the wall. Employee would go outside the side entrance and prop the door open and stand right outside it and smoke and fill the hallway with the smell as well. Not very enjoyable
