Recently stayed at this hotel, and it was okay. I requested a room on a higher floor, but they put me on the 3rd floor that looked into the 3 story garage rather than above it. Why not honor my request? I don't know. The room definitely needed an update as the sheets were thin and the A/C didn't work. The latter is no problem in Santa Maria as the nights are cool, and the room stays cool if you open a window. There is no housekeeping at this hotel until you've been there 4 days. I did not stay long so that did not affect me. The soap bars are so thin they wear out after one shower. They have Direct TV, which means premium channels such as ESPN are not available because of a contract dispute. There were only paper cups in the room, and I am not fond of that if you want a soda on ice. The staff was pleasant and there were no issues there. One plus is that the room was quite large in the tower. Apparently, the rooms in the historical wing are much smaller.0 Across the street is Shaw's Restaurant which has excellent Santa Maria BBQ. The tri-tip sandwich is comme il faut. And cooked to order if you can believe it. This hotel is definitely 3 star, but don't expect much beyond that.

This establishment has not really changed n quite a few years, and that's the issue. I go there as it is the location for a car event that I participate in each year and that's the only reason. Staff is always friendly, but the lace is quite run down. That's why they lean on the historic side of their description. The biggest issue for me was the steady odor of sewage in the loby and elevator areas. Staff said that they did have a problem, but nothing was done to even mask the smell. No fans, no deodorizers, nothing. It was really gross. The room was adequate for the price.

We stayed here for one night as part of a group tour. Our room was on the 3rd floor, facing a busy road, the windows did not shut properly and it was noisy until the traffic died down. We asked to change the room and the recptionist told us there was nothing available. She was quite rude and had no idea how to deal with customers. The room was very dated as were the bathroom facilities. The hallway carpet was very dirty. Didn't look like it had been vacuumed in days. We ate our evening meal in the hotel and the food was good. The server however was like something out of faulty towers, if you've seen it. I would not stay here by choice.
