I did a ton of research on hotels in the SF area and am so happy I landed on St Regis. I've done a lot of traveling all over the world and spent a lot of time at 5-star hotels. This one ranks right up with the best of them. This is a 4.5 star review, but I gave it the extra bump up to 5-stars for reasons below: The Good: * The BEST Amex FHR hotel I've stayed at. They upgraded us to the 2nd highest floor. * For Amex FHR, they also give $300 towards food (total), plus free breakfast (daily, up to a limit). And unlike other hotels, the $300 includes any taxes/tips, PLUS the hotel restaurant prices are actually reasonable. * Great location, just a few minute walk to the Monorail * Great staff -- from the doormen, to the counter, to the waiters -- everyone extremely friendly and helpful. * Extremely large and amazing shower (rain and adjustable wand), temperature was amazing. * Incredible indoor heated pool * Good quality body gels and shampoo/conditioner. * Complimentary waters (in recyclable cans). * Complimentary transport from hotel (within a small radius) around dinner time. * Robe/slippers * Very very quiet room, and extremely comfortable bed * Soaking tub (no jets) * Turn-down service * Great room service (they setup a full table for you) The Bad (Nitpicking): * Even from the 19th floor, it wasn't an "amazing" view -- but it's still decent. * Shower pressure could have been very slightly higher. * Hair dryer felt a little cheap, but did the job. * Spa was not open (not sure why, maybe renovation) Basically from the moment you walk in to the time you check out, you feel the luxury and they treat you like a welcomed and respected customer. Whoever is running this hotel is doing it right. I highly recommend a stay here!

The St. Regis is a modern luxury hotel in downtown San Francisco. I had always wanted to try this property, and during a recent visit to SF I used my free night certificate worth 80K points (plus a few thousand of my own) to redeem as stay. The hotel definitely lives up to its luxury reputation, the staff are extremely polite and welcoming, the hotel is elegant but understanded, and there is a lot of attention to detail. Requests are answered quickly, and overall, I think this is my new favorite hotel to stay in the SF. I have stayed at the Ritz-Carlton in SF many times, and while I like that property for its old-fashioned luxury feel, I prefer the rooms and the service at the St. Regis. My only complaint was that there was a weird noise coming out of the HVAC system at night, but I forgot to mention it to the front desk. Also, be sure to visit their lobby bar in the evening when they do the traditional St. Regis champagne ceremony (they also have themed nights, the evening I was there it was Cuban – with a live band). 5/5

“Lovely Hotel But No Real Feel of San Francisco”

Glorious hotel with lovely staff, but this hotel missed for us because the neighbourhood feels like many urban cities and misses a San Francisco feel. We love to walk through the parks and neighbourhoods in SF to see the views and wide range of architecture, but the St Regis area misses this. Other… more

Glorious hotel with lovely staff, but this hotel missed for us because the neighbourhood feels like many urban cities and misses a San Francisco feel. We love to walk through the parks and neighbourhoods in SF to see the views and wide range of architecture, but the St Regis area misses this. Other neighbourhod areas hum with a special SF energy that was absent here. SF residents are also very friendly but this is lost in polished service (however nice the staff were).

“Birthday Weekend with Mishaps”

My friend and I booked a one night stay in SF to celebrate our birthdays. Usually, this is something that is acknowledged but not so here. Was able to check in as soon as we arrived, staff very friendly. Upon entering room, I see they set waters out for our stay. I immediately opened one and took a big gulp only to realize it was not water at all. It was some kind of lemonade or gatorade. I then realized that the previous guest must have filled the water bottle with something else and then left it, housekeeping not checking to see if the bottle had been opened or not. The other bottle left was fine/not opened. I reported to staff so they could pass on to housekeeping - to make sure bottles have not been opened. Staff was very concerned and checked up on me during the stay just in case juice had been tampered with. I'm fine. The rooms were a bit tired/in need of updates. Did not seem as big as 450sf description but was a nice room with decent size bathroom, separate shower and toilet room. It's nice also that they still give toiletries in the room. Our stay came with breakfast but when we went down the next morning there was a huge line and long wait and we just barely got seated before they ended breakfast service. It would be nice if they let guests know at check in that the wait for breakfast can be long unless they come down by a certain time. I ordered hot chocolate because I was told it like a European style dark chocolate. The first cup was good and chocolatey but soon found that the cup had a crack in it and it all leaked onto saucer and the table. Server replaced of course but second cup was nothing like the first, not chocolatey at all, very watered down. They ended up comping the chocolate but it would have been nice to have had the second cup same as the first. At checkout, we were told to relax in lobby while our car was being brought around and to leave our bags because they would "make sure the bags are loaded in car". They told us they'd come get us when car was ready but they never did. We sat for about 15 minutes and then I noticed through the window that my car was there, we walked out to valet but one of the guys was pulling away in my car. I told the other valet guys and they said he was parking it on the street because we hadn't been at valet and the car had been there awhile. You would have thought that he'd bring the car back around but he continued to park it on street even though we walked over to it and said it was our car. We then drive home (we live in the bay area) only to find NO LUGGAGE! We called and all was sorted after a few hours but with this caliber of hotel I don't expect these kinds of mistakes. Its just a good thing we live in the Bay Area and were not headed to airport. We would have flown home with no luggage or missed our flight. All in all, it was an average stay. The staff were all friendly and helpful but with all the mishaps during my stay I would have thought they would have comped me a night in the future or given me some points to make up for it but nothing.
