“Unique, cozy, friendly”

One of the friendliest places we’ve stayed. Beautiful, tasteful decor, wine in the afternoon, coffee and tea available throughout the day, quiet, cozy atmosphere with the fireplace on, comfortable bed, big bathtub, extremely accommodating staff.

The door at the end of the 5th floor to the fire escape needs to be fixed. It allowed cold air in and it was cold in the corridor. Inside, however, with the fireplace and small heater, we were comfortable. We loved the decor and there was plenty of space for our clothes. Although breakfast and complimentary wine were next door, that wasn't a problem for us.

“Not a bad place for solo traveler!”

Pros: Staff are great! Breakfast is good. Next door breakfsast room (at the White Swan) is cozy. Coffee room at the Petite Auberge is cozy. Nearer to the downtown. Good for solo! Cons: The building is a bit old. No noise proof. Maintenance needed to check. The toilet cistern took time to refill wat… more

Pros: Staff are great! Breakfast is good. Next door breakfsast room (at the White Swan) is cozy. Coffee room at the Petite Auberge is cozy. Nearer to the downtown. Good for solo! Cons: The building is a bit old. No noise proof. Maintenance needed to check. The toilet cistern took time to refill water, which is slightly upsetting. No 24/7 receptionist and no breakfast room at the Petite/Auberge despite there are a 24/7 receptionist and breakfast room at the next door.

This little boutique B&B certainly scores high on the charm factor, and has some nice touches, i.e. the wine and cheese in the evenings and the fireplaces in the rooms. I wanted to love it, but there were a few issues I'd want to have resolved before I stayed there again. First, the heating didn't work in my room, even after a repair man supposedly fixed it. Not great in mid-December. Also, the gas fireplace didn't throw any heat and didn't work consistently - I could turn it on and nothing would happen, then twenty minutes later it would randomly come on - and vice-versa. I was told that was just the way they were. The rooms were advertised as having pod coffee makers, but there was no coffee or tea-making equipment in my room at all. There was free tea and coffee on the ground floor, along with ice, but that was a trek given I was staying on the 4th floor, and there were no ice buckets. There was no refrigerator in the room, and given there was no bar or restaurant attached to the hotel, that was a big down-side. Finally, the hotel seemed to be sharing staff with a sister hotel a few doors down. This meant that quite often there was no one at the front desk, which was a pain if you needed to get your car back from valet, etc. (the solution was to call the other hotel's front desk). It was also a security issue, since there was no one to help if someone pushed in when a guest opened the door (this happened at least once while I was there). So basically, it was super cute and the location was great, but I would want to see some of these issues resolved before staying there again.
