We selected this property mostly due to its location close to family and the LA cruise ports. We were not disappointed. We arrived early to find the lobby mired in chaos with departing and arriving cruisers. Despite that, Elizabeth at the Front Desk handled things calmly and got us checked in. As expected, our room was not ready but Elizabeth put our bags in storage until later. When our room was ready, Michelle at the Front Desk took care of us navigating some minor complexities with our two booked rooms. She also relocated us from the ground floor to higher floors so as to give us a better view of the marina. Throughout our stay Michelle always greeted us with smiles and a helpful attitude. As others have reported, the property could use a refresh in the common areas but outside of some noticeable wear and tear, our room was quiet, clean and quite comfortable. The bathroom was large and stocked with the usual amenities. The shower was strong and the water hot. Exceptional fluffy towels too. Bathroom lighting could be brighter though. The morning dining room crew with Rene and Raul delivered first class service with our daily breakfast. And those breakfasts were delicious. We had no issues with service or the food. Other front desk personnel, Luis and Geo, were also quite helpful to our requests and questions. In our opinion it was the Doubletree staff that made the visit as nice as it was. The hotel offers shuttle service but the range is limited to five miles which is intended to support cruisers bound for the San Pedro cruise terminal (Royal Caribbean). The walking trail behind the hotel is a wonderful way to explore the marina and the waterfront. Cosmetic issues aside we enjoyed our stay at this Doubletree and while comparisons can be made to other Doubletree properties, we enjoyed our stay and will revisit next time in town. Note that the hotel’s business ebbs and flows with San Pedro cruise ship schedules. So on those cruise days the hotel is crowded and busy while on other days, less so.

My friend and I are cruisers. We often leave from Port of Los Angeles and have always stayed at the same hotel the night before we sail. This trip, we decided to do something different and we stayed at the Double Tree by Hilton. We will not make that mistake again. The Hotel is very tired and needs sprucing up in the rooms. The fridge in our room looked like someone had scratched it all up with something. The walls were dirty and just not a welcoming atmosphere. This may sound trivial but I practically had to get on my hands and knees to find the roll of toilet paper that was tucked so far under the bathroom counter that I couldn't see it. When we have arrived at other hotels before check in time, we have always been told our room was ready and we could go in. This time we were told to come back in an hour. That was fine. It was 2:30. We went back at 3:30 and were told it would be another half an hour. I do realize check in time was 4:00 but if they didn't want us there until 4:00, then tell us!! When we did go back at 4:00, the lady said "your room SHOULD be ready now" It was and so it should have been. There should not have been even a question of it being ready by check in time. I agree with a lot of the reviewers about the union protests. I believe the hotel should have some sort of disclaimer telling people there is a labour dispute so people have a choice of crossing into the hotel. Had I known, I would not have booked this hotel. I was a union employee my entire working life and would have respected the worker's protest and not patronized the hotel. The one bright spot of the hotel was the shuttle and the shuttle drivers. One driver took us to a restaurant a few miles away and picked us up after dinner and the other driver took us to the pier the next morning. Both drivers were very personable and got us where we wanted ago.
