Lovely old hotel with recent remodeling. The location was the best- just across the street from the Alamo and steps from the Riverwalk. The lobby/hotel didn't offer much in the way of amenities- just a small bar at night (where free breakfast is the next morning.) And no public spaces or pool. But we really enjoyed it.

“Great view, breakfast & staff”

My family and I visited at the beginning of Summer. I wasn’t wowed when we first got there but that quickly changed. Sarah who worked the desk was very knowledgeable on the history of the hotel and very welcoming. The valet was also very eager to help. Now I read in another post that at times they were low staffed and one time it did take us 30 min to get our car, however I also noticed guests telling them they called or came down and asked for car in person. But if you follow their process and go to the like they provide to request your car at least 15-20 in advance their usually isn’t an issue. That 30 min wait? We forgot to request it. The valet team Manuel, Jose and Molly were very helpful during our stay. The breakfast was impressive too as some places have their own fancy restaurant which makes it hard to find something at high price. Gibbs keeps it simple with buffet style eggs, meats, biscuits and gravy, and waffles as well as quick grabs like yogurt. They even add a San Antonio dish, carne guisada with tortillas. Someone mentioned the A/C being too loud. Yes as the air comes on a little loud but quiets down 5 sec later. Didn’t bother me when sleeping. My family and I sleep with house freezing. We were excited to see that this hotel A/C was able to go below 70 degrees unlike many hotels I’ve been. We slept comfortably at 66 degrees. We raised to 70 during the day. The down side for my wife was water pressure in the shower. We would definitely stay again. Such ideal location with view of the Alamo Plaza and Rivercenter Mall just on the other side. It is 15 min from airport. Didn’t think to take picture of the hotel but here is a look at hallway and our view.

“Very small rooms. Maid did not replace coffee and supplies or tissues. The air conditioner noisy and did not cool room!”

Tue place is old and the hallways noisy. The air conditioner was very noisy turning on and off and did not consistently keep the room cool. The maid service did not replenish the coffee and supplies, coffee cups, water cups and even Kleenex tissues after the first night. Breakfast was good.

Let's start with what we loved. The location was fantastic, right across the street from Alamo. Easy access to all attractions downtown. Very walkable area. We always felt safe, even at night. Breakfast was really nice! Several hot entrées, eggs, sausage, bacon, waffles as well as quick grab items, like fruit and cereal. What we didn't like. Overwhelmed valet when we arrived, 1 person working, probably 6 cars needed parking. He called for backup. Back up arrived smelling like weed. Not comforting, handing your keys over to someone that smells like weed. Check-in reception was acceptable. One person working, not very welcoming. Lobby is unusual. The front door comes into a small reception area that the valet uses. If he is parking a car, no one is there and is not very clear where the lobby for check-in is located. Actual lobby is small, not very welcoming. Our room was a nice size, comfort of bed acceptable. Loved the original hard wood floors. Bathroom needs more towel racks or hooks. Only 1 hook in the bathroom was not sufficient. There is nowhere in the shower to place items you have brought, only the installed shampoo, etc. Also, mold around shower door - gross! Overall, acceptable with room for improvements!
