It’s been a very wonderful time here as a military spouse with my husband. We have had a very welcoming environment and fun filled places around to handout. The reception is excellent and the people are very friendly and welcoming. Lincoln is such a great person and makes us feel at home every time we talk to him, The property manager is very open to our challenges and has great solving skills. Love it here. 😊😊

Comfortable hotel in a great location, staffed by the most welcoming and helpful people I’ve encountered at a hotel. During a solo trip to Oahu, I chose to stay at The Equus due to its being a family owned hotel a short walk from the best surf spots in town. I’m a bit of a light sleeper, so I was wary of the street noise mentioned by some of the other reviews, but I figured I’d give it a chance anyway. I’m so glad I did. My room was quiet and comfortable, and the hospitality of the staff was unmatched. Lincoln was particularly helpful, moving mountains to make sure I could stay in my room when I decided last minute to extend my trip. Mahalo Lincoln and everyone at the Equus; see you again soon!

“Very nice stay!”

Very comfortable room for the price with comfy beds. Kollett and Jacquie were very friendly and helpful. The cleaning staff was also great. The elevator is a bit old and could use an update but overall the hotel is clean and well maintained. We will definitely be back.

I booked two nights here solo before my travel partner came in because we are Diamond status with Hilton and stayed there once our group was all on island. The price and location were good. Parking is EXTREMELY tight. So much so that I had to guide a guest out of his space at 5 am one day and he needed to move dumpsters to help him navigate the area and still had to do a 21 point turn. So if you rent a car, make sure it is small or park offsite. Luckily for me, the parking attendant, Duane, carried my bag up the stairs for me since there was no elevator from the ground floor to the first. Little did Duane know that my bag weighed 65 pounds. I would NOT have been able to lug it up myself. My fault for not looking ahead of time if the hotel had bell services or not. I am putting this in the review because last year while traveling in Europe I specifically stayed clear of hotels that the reviews mentioned that there was no elevator and luggage had to be taken upstairs. The Equus did have an elevator from the lobby on the first floor to all guest floors. Renee at the check it desk was kind and welcoming. She greeted me warmly and told me that my room was ready which was much needed after traveling for 18 hours and a six hour time difference from home. My plan was to drop my belongings and head across the street for sunset as I didn’t want to travel that far and then come to Oahu and go right to sleep. I was also trying to force myself to stay awake to acclimate myself to island time. I walked into my room and it was clean and decorated accordingly to the motif of the hotel. The only problem was the room was warm. I looked at the remote for the air con and it said 67. It was not 67 but outside air temp at best. It was on and operational, just not doing its job. I stopped by the desk and asked Renee if someone could look at it. She immediately got on the radio and called for assistance. I met the person she called for by the elevator and told him he could go into the room while I went to sunset. After a spectacular sunset I walked back to the Equus and checked in with Renee. She said that the AC was working. I thanked her and went upstairs. The room was the same temp as when I left but the thermostat on the remote now said 64. They lowered it to see if they could get it cooler. Exhaustion was setting in and I was thinking that maybe they reset something and it would eventually start to cool the room. Luckily for me I travel with a handheld, rechargeable fan and held that on my face and fell asleep after being up for 23 hours hoping that it would cool overnight. Still being on Easy Coast time, I woke up at 2, laid in bed trying to fall back to sleep and then surrendered to being awake all day. I headed out for sunrise and to do a Shaka Guide tour of the North Shore. I returned almost 12 hours later to a warm room. I went back to the desk where I was greeted by Lauren and asked her if they had fans for the room. I’m paying for AC but a fan would help. No fans for guests to use. I asked her if someone could come up and look at it, again. She said she would send someone up. On my way up I asked a couple that was getting on the elevator on my floor if their room was cold and they said “frigid”. I just wanted to see if it was that particular type of AC that wasn’t as efficient but no, it was just mine. Duane from the parking garage, the poor soul who had to carry my overweight suitcase up the stairs, knocked on my door. He looked at the unit, saw the two lights on and said “it’s working”. I said yes, this working but not doing its job and cooling the room. He agreed and thought it was mid 70’s in there. He suggested sleeping with the windows open. I told him that there would be no cross ventilation unless I slept with the doors open and THAT was not happening. I went t into the bathroom and grabbed some toilet paper to hold up in front of the unit to see the airflow. Barely anything. He said they would have maintenance look at it TOMORROW. I could not stay in that room another night with the temp like that. We went downstairs where he informed Lauren that it was working but not cooling the room. She took note of the room number, 1007 and said she would have maintenance look at it tomorrow. I asked her if there was another room available and she said that they were sold out. I told her that I would be checking out as soon as I found another hotel because jetlag is real and I needed sleep. She asked what “class” room I had and looked it up. I told her King and that “I didn’t care what class I got moved to. I would sleep on a sofa if it had air”. She then said that they do have a room for an “emergency”. Well a guest paying full price for air con when there isn’t any is an emergency to me. She did say that she could put me in there for the night since I was checking out in the morning anyway. Thankfully my new room was only two rooms away and it only took 7 trips back and forth to move everything that I had taken out of my luggage into my now freezing room. I slept like a rock that night. I checked out before 6 am to go explore the island again. It was a new lady at check out that just took my room number, crossed me off the list and said “Thank you”. No how was your stay, etc, so I volunteered the info. I told her that the first night was horrible but Lauren saved the day last night. I explained the situation and she jotted down the room number again with the faulty ac unit and said “I’m sorry”. Not a mention of returning the first nights lodging or even throwing in free parking. Nothing for a horrible night due to faulty equipment on their end. I travel often. Domestic and international, with chains and independent establishments like The Equus and usually they will do something if they are not fulfilling their end of the agreement. Just an “I’m sorry”. That’s not totally true as I was told by Renee upon check in that a complimentary cocktail was at the bar waiting for me when ready. Sadly, I never got to enjoy that cocktail because the only time I was in the hotel, I was dealing with the AC issue.
