“Great Hidden Gem”

Great hotel. The regular Halekulani doubled its rate from '23. We decided to try their sister property and it exceeded our expectations. Yes, rooms are smaller, but super new- clean and great service. Easy access to the beach. Best location.

Great to sleep as it was quite. Pillows could be more comfortable. Umi is a very good restaurant but 10% discount for those staying at the hotel is never applied. I've always loved coming to Oahu and having a meal or drinks at Halekulani/Halepuna. In fact, it's a must visit on every trip (about 2-3 times a year). So I wanted to finally stay on property- I booked a room on Cap1 travel portal and since it was a "lifestyle collection" room, I had extra benefits such as $50 experience credit, room upgrades (if available), early check-in/late checkout (if available). But here's the problem....I arrived around 1pm to check-in with Brooke (remember this name! Worst attitude ever) and was told that the room isn't available yet which I understood since I guess the early check-in was just based on availability. I was told that the room (I wasn't told what room type it was) until I received my room number by text around 3pm. I find out that it was just the standard room (what Noah told me was that it is the "LOWEST category we have" so I kindly asked about the upgrade and he goes "oh the mountain view room would be an upgrade but that room isn't available until maybe one hour" FIRST RED FLAG- clearly the room would be available but no one bothered to clean it and Brooke probably didn't even bother checking for any upgrades when I first checked in at 1pm. I didn't bother waiting another hour so I took the original room. SECOND RED FLAG- I get into the standard room and the curtain is completely broken. The automatic buttons weren't working and it kept getting stuck mid-way down. Secondly, the floor lamp wasn't working. I turned the knob and it just fell off.. THIRD RED FLAG- Since I paid with my Venture X Cap1 card for the room, I used that card for incidentals at check-in and I just made sure with Brooke that I can pay cash at checkout (which is what I do at ALL hotels). Without any hesitation, she said it in the most condescending tone "no you can't. This is just the rule with the hotel." I'm like ok sure...BUT alas, I was able to pay cash at checkout. At this point, I was so frustrated with everything I had to deal with for the first 2 hours of my visit but Shogo (one of the managers) stepped in and saved the trip. He was so apologetic about everything, told me to wait in the first room while he quickly asked for the ocean view room to be prepared. Once it was prepared, he delivered the room key himself to our room and asked if we needed help with our baggage. It was just so kind of him to make sure that we were okay and settled into the new room just fine. Just avoid Brooke at all costs! Everything else was wonderful!
