“A Place That's Seen Better Times”

Guests at Shilo Inns Newport Oceanfront say: I honestly don't know how to do this review. We've stayed at the Shilo here in Newport before. It is a great location right on the beach with a long staircase down to the sand. Our room was rather quaint with the usual - queen bed, two bed tables, small writing desk/chair, credenza with dresser, microwave & ; mini-fridge and a nice cafe table with two chairs right at the window where we could watch the ocean. But . . . the property has seen better days. The desk clerks are a bit rough around the edges; the place badly needs a facelift; the room furniture shows wear (not inoperable but worn); the rooms are a bit small for the amount of furniture in them; and the Internet doesn't work. At one time Shilo Inns had breakfast. No longer. I was pretty disappointed in the condition of the Shilo. However, on a very positive note, on checking out, the manager apologized profusely about the non-operational Internet and discounted our bill by 10%. Nice of her. Would I stay there again? At the prices and the availability of other nicer properties probably not.
