Hampton Inn Newark Airport

Proximity to Newark Airport was great. There is an airport shuttle, but you have to find it. Make sure you take the AirTrain to the proper stop. Proximity to Newark Airport was great. There is an airport shuttle, but you have to find it. Make sure you take the AirTrain to the proper stop. Shuttles, the Blue Van, comes by every ½ hour on the half hour. When we were waiting for the Van, so were countless others. Bag space is limited in the “trunk” of the van and people have these huge suitcases. My wife got into the van while I was trying to put my 2 carry-ons in the back. I wasn’t able to put them in, so we just held them in the cab. Because of the volume of people heading to the airport, there was a long line to check in. Luckily I was second. The man at the reception, whose name I forgot, was very nice. I received 2 bottles of water for being a Hilton Honors member. Our room, #715, was very nice. Two very comfortable beds. It was clean and very modern. I would have liked to open the window to get some fresh air, but it as bolted closed. Shampoo and Soap dispensers are in the shower, and a bar of soap, with plenty of towels are provided. Towels, even though they were Hilton towels, were a bit scratchy...more fabric softener please. We had to leave so early in the morning that we didn’t have time to enjoy any breakfast there. We were in the room for such a short time, but it did the trick. We were between flights, one of which was International and the other which was Domestic. Leaving, we made a reservation for the van upon check-in. We had absolutely no problem boarding the van for the airport in the morning. All and all it was a good stay, and I would stay here again, but you have to be assertive for that van.

Compared to the customer service and friendliness of other Hampton Inns, this one lacks severely. Maybe it’s just New Jersey. Compared to the customer service and friendliness of other Hampton Inns, this one lacks severely. Maybe it’s just New Jersey. Hopefully I won’t need to go back, but if I do, I’ll consider other options. It was also considerably more expensive compared to other areas. I’m sure high demand had a lot to do with both issues, but front desk attitudes are a training issue.

“Convenient to EWR - great staff, uncomfortable, small rooms”

This facility was picked for it convenience to EWR upon arrival and departure day. As such, it was adequate and convenient. This facility was picked for it convenience to EWR upon arrival and departure day. As such, it was adequate and convenient. The entire area, if you are not a local is extraordinarily busy with confusing traffic patterns so I would advise public (hotel van, Uber, taxi, etc) transpiration. If you need a rental car while in the area, I would not pick it up until you were ready to depart, or upon your return - not drive to this hotel! The access to the area is the classic "accident-made-to-happen" driving situation. As for the hotel, this property was one of two Hampton Inns that we used during our weeklong holiday in NJ and NY. The rooms were both disappointing to my many years of staying at Hampton Inns as first choice. One of Hilton's very old brands, it seems that they have morphed them from 4-star mini-suite hotels to 2-star road-side motels in terms of size and comfort of their standard rooms. I grant you that the Hampton Inn - EWR is certainly NOT a long-stay property. But, even for one night, the rooms are cramped (short and narrow) for more than one occupant. This EWR property had ONE (1) chair - the rolling desk chair. The room was clean and not 'shop worn' The staff were all friendly and helpful (More about their jitney driver, later) However, as noted in my review of the second Hampton Inn that we used during this holiday (Fishkill, NY), Hilton seems to have begun a process of down-grading Hampton Inns from a mini-suite property to a standard 'road side motel' style room property - but at a premium price. After years of preferring Hampton Inns, I will now be more selective. I must single out the Hotel's airport jitney driver, Ralphie. He was one of the most friendly, helpful and efficient drivers we have encountered in our global travels. Well done, Ralphie. Bottom line, if I need to overnight very near EWR, I would return to this property. ONE night only!
