We wanted to stay at Newark Airport so that we could drop off our rental car a few days earlier, have a day trip to Manhattan, and have easy airport access for the first leg of our international return journey. We chose the Hampton Inn for this purpose. This involved four trips on the hotel shuttle which were fine without needing to wait too long. The configuration of the Newark Airtrain links added complexity as the New Jersey Transit/Amtrak station is only accessible by Airtrain and hotel shuttle pickup is separate from terminals, rental cars, and the main line stations. It's challenging that the hotel is only accessible by car and there is no way of getting to any food places. The hotel offsets this to a limited degree by stocking a few options that can be heated in the lobby microwave. The hotel breakfast is passable but not really any healthy options - no muesli, no yoghurt, no cooked fruit. The room was generally very good - very comfortable bed, extra large TV, fridge (but no microwave), basic coffee maker. Only negative aspect was some overly strong cleaning product that had been used and lingered in the room. The hotel may not necessarily easy to get to by car - the rental car GPS took us to Holiday Inn despite entering Hampton Inn and it wasn't possible to search for the street address 450 Route 1 And 9 South. Overall I'd recommend Hampton Inn, which works for combining other New Jersey or New York activities along with a flight. The rate we paid wasn't particularly a bargain and some planning was required for meals other than breakfast.

“Suited my needs”

Booked the park & stay package and had no issues. Staff was polite and helpful. I did the online check-in prior to arrival and had the digital key for access to the parking lot. Booked the park & stay package and had no issues. Staff was polite and helpful. I did the online check-in prior to arrival and had the digital key for access to the parking lot. Not sure how you could get in without it, maybe there's a call button for them to let you in. Stayed in an odd numbered room which was quiet. On my return trip I stayed in an even numbered room and boy was it loud being so close to the highway. Room was very clean, breakfast in the morning had a decent offering and the shuttle to the airport was awesome. Since everyone on the shuttle was going to the same terminal, the driver dropped us all off at the terminal instead of the normal drop off spot. Driver wasn't wearing a seatbelt though. On the way back, had to trek all the way to the designated pick up spot and waited about 30 minutes for the shuttle so it was a less awesome experience. Some hotels had multiple shuttles arrive before this hotel's shuttle arrived. The hotel has a texting service but it's very hit or miss if someone will get back to you timely. In my case I had sent a text asking about the next shuttle pick up time and got a reply the following morning. Don't worry guys, I made it back safe & sound! Lots of hotels in the area but I think I would choose to stay here again.

If you're familiar with Hampton Inn properties, you'll feel right at home at this location. It's classic Hampton, from the staff, to breakfast, to the layout and comfort of the room. The only drawback about this property is its location. If you need a place close to the airport, which I did, it's right across the highway. But there is nothing else within walking distance. I ended up taking a Lyft to a restaurant in Elizabeth for dinner. But if you just need a place to crash before or after a flight, this location will get the job done.

Bedroom was adequate but maybe not reflective of cost. There was a free shuttle to the station to the terminal but we opted for a cab instead, which was direct. The building is dated and the elevators were in a poor state. We were stuck in a non functioning elevator during our stay, which was stressful. The food facilities, for evening meal, were poor and there are no restaurants or outlets nearby. We ended up ordering using Uber Eats and collecting in the car park. Our flight time meant that we couldn’t sample the breakfast offerings. As an overnight stay to catch a flight it was functional, but a bit depressing and in need of a lift. And overpriced. Wouldn’t stay for any longer.
