I am a frequent traveler and a Marriott Titanium elite member. I will preface my review, as I usually do, by stating that I rate hotels based on the brand and its expectations. My recent stay at the Courtyard at Newark Airport was mixed. I actually had two rooms at the hotel for me and my family. The check in experience was fine and checked out our two rooms. One of the rooms was hot and smelled. Later on when I was on the app, I received a survey asking how my stay was and I made a comment about how the one room was hot and had a smell. I was contacted by the front desk, with them ready to switch out my room. I was not expecting this and kudos to the hotel for being proactive. Although the rooms have been renovated with the current gray interiors and the lobby modernized some, the hotel does feel a bit dated. We did eat at the bistro in the lobby, which was surprisingly decent. (I have eaten at Courtyard Bistros previously and they can be hit or miss) For those wanting to know information about the area, there is nowhere to walk to, no stores around or anything. There are 3 other hotels in the area, but otherwise the hotel is surrounded by highways. The hotel offers a shuttle bus every 30 minutes. However, the shuttle bus was 25 minutes late when we took it early in the morning. We ended up taking an uber to the terminal because we could not wait any more. (The bus arrived at the same time our Uber did). My rating is a 3 primarily because of the issue with the bus (the main reason we stayed at this hotel) and just some of the other small issues we had. With no bus issue, I would have rate a 4.

“Fair but honest review”

I travel quite a bit and prefer Courtyard Marriott properties especially in remote areas. This property while clean and very efficient is not very friendly to their guests. Don't let the smashed car port scare you, it was damaged by a truck but there is not sign telling you "repair in process" ... more

I travel quite a bit and prefer Courtyard Marriott properties especially in remote areas. This property while clean and very efficient is not very friendly to their guests. Don't let the smashed car port scare you, it was damaged by a truck but there is not sign telling you "repair in process" so it can be scary driving up and seeing the disrepair. Makes you feel unsafe. There is really no place to eat around the hotel so you can order from their bistro. Staff there is friendly and efficient. They charge you 25 dollars a day for parking which was not anticipated. But overall clean and comfortable. Did not acknowledge Silver Elite members, nor did they offer water at check in.
