“A Perfect Girls Night”

Elijah made our night so special. In addition to being spectacularly fashionable with perfectly coordinated nails and eyewear, they made sure our glasses were filled, we knew the specials and the dimples were on fleek!! It was a great night!

“Fantastic dinner out”

We came to the standard for an evening out, and the outside area at the grill is so inviting! Food and the honeymoon cocktail were amazing! Our server Elijah was so attentive and energetic! Highly recommend lithe potatoes and carrots. Definitely recommend!

This was a difficult review to write. I really liked the staff, the location, and the general quality of the room itself. The bed was comfortable, the view was fine. I did not use any of the bar or restaurants available, so I can't opine on them. What marred our experience were two things that were incongruent with everything else; the bathroom and the elevator. The bathroom's design is both aesthetically off-putting and impractical in surprising ways. The visual design is reminiscent of a dilapidated sanitarium set in the 1970s. There were also no places to hang your towel, and the door would invariably slam no matter how softly I'd try to close it. I will say the tub and shower were pleasant. The elevators are currently hosting an art exhibit which is unsettling. The music is a dark waltz that sounds like something played in a horror movie at a carnival, which is appropriate given the art it accompanies. Each elevator has a different set of art that changes as you go up and down. Each piece of art is a massive collage of gifs and memes that are put together in a surrealist, nightmarish whole that looks like it was printed on a 3-D card. I stayed on the 14th floor and seriously contemplated using the stairs. I would have if I wasn't also there with my wife. Those two elements, the bathroom and the elevators, spoiled what was otherwise a very good experience. It created an atmosphere of discomfort and unease, which is the opposite of what you want when staying away from home. The staff was friendly, professional, and attentive. The design of the rest of the hotel was interesting. It was well connected to several places to eat, and the rooftop bar was remarked by local friends as worth visiting. It is next to the Highline and several metro stations. Like the title says, it's like finding olives in cheesecake. The elevator art and music can be easily swapped out, so that might change sooner or later. If all the bathrooms are the same, that'll take a lot more work. That design choice is baffling. It reminds me of Zoolander's Derelicte.

Great location but the rooms are tired and in desperate need of an update. Terrible customer service at The Standard Grill. Paying over $600 a night for a room and we wanted to sit down and have drinks and dessert after a show. It was almost 9:30 and there was hardly anyone in the restaurant and we were told they were only seating for dinner. So another restaurant in the neighborhood got our business instead.
