We always enjoy our stay at The Refinery Hotel in NY. The location, rooms and service are all great, but we love the staff the most! The people are amazing and always make us feel welcome and at home!

I loved the little touches. Wine when I arrived. The room was perfect. Wine and treats inside. The bathroom was clean and spacious. The bed was comfy too!

(I'll admit that I was torn on what rating to put, since everything else was so great!! I chose "average" instead of "good/great" since the below affected our stay on a daily basis.) My Family of 4 recently stayed at the Refinery for a week's vacay in NYC. Our room was a Deluxe Double Queen. Overall the hotel is really lovely, very clean, amazing rooftop, nice staff, delicious restaurants, beautifully designed and appointed lobby and guestrooms! However, aesthetics won over function when it came to the bathroom door in our hotel room. The bathroom door, although unique and pleasing to the eye, was very transparent. Technically, it was semi-transparent but the glass design was not nearly opaque enough and you could very easily see through to a level of detail that was uncomfortable for both parties involved. I totally get that in a hotel room meant for two sometimes you'll find that there's some type of frosted wall or door into the bathroom. And generally that's not a problem when sharing a room with a spouse, partner, very close friend; you get my drift. But when a room clearly holds more than 2 ppl, (ours held 4) you'd expect a standard level of privacy as not everyone will likely feel comfortable undressing and taking care of other private/personal needs in view of the entire party. Unfortunately, the Refinery missed the mark on this one. For our entire week-long stay, anytime anyone was using the bathroom for private needs, out of privacy and respect the rest of the family were unable to be anywhere near the entryway where the bathroom is located, which includes the closet, mini fridge and full length mirror....And the bathroom is in direct line of sight when you open the hotel room door! So anyone coming or going from the room got a birds eye view. As a work-around during our stay, family members actually resorted to changing in the large closet occasionally to permit the rest of the family to walk around freely while we dressed. We're not total prudes, but we're not a family that uses the restroom with the door open nor are comfortable being nude in front of our teenagers (and vise versa). No offense to those who are! - That's just not us. It was a frustrating / annoying part of our stay that truly could have been mitigated by a normal bathroom door or one with higher opacity. In summary, If you're comfortable with that level of privacy then please enjoy your stay. It's truly a gorgeous hotel, VERY clean, in a great location!!! But if your party requires more privacy, I hope this review helps level set your expectations. In hindsight, I should have taken a photo to share, but I never post reviews. When I returned home I felt so strongly that this would have been something I wish I knew before booking that I decided to leave a review.

“Cool vibe. Friendly staff. But mostly just okay-ish.”

The decor is on-point, and the staff is super friendly, professional, and helpful. But I'm not sure I'd stay here again. The rooms could use a deep-clean. Our overhead bathroom light was out. The decor is on-point, and the staff is super friendly, professional, and helpful. But I'm not sure I'd stay here again. The rooms could use a deep-clean. Our overhead bathroom light was out. Our room was next to the service elevator, so we heard knocking and other noises 24-7. I would imagine this is true of any of the rooms adjacent to the service elevator on every floor. (And too inconvenient to pack everything up and move rooms by the time we realized what was happening.) The bar closes fairly early. Coffee service is only available on "select days" (meaning, only one of the three days we were there). Overall, it's a cool hotel just lacks some of the niceties I would expect at this price point.
