The Sofitel is in a great location in easy walking distance to Broadway theaters, but on a less congested street. I found the lobby slightly confusing since the check-in desk is located far from the front door, but that was easy to solve. My room was relatively spacious for NYC, although the Paris-inspired decor is a bit on the dark side. I wish that there had been (1) a working refrigerator (an abandoned one was hidden behind a cabinet) and (2) ice available on my floor. A full ice bucket was delivered by room service upon request. I visited the restaurant only for after-hours drinks with a group of friends, and the service was prompt and gracious.

Our suite was excellent albeit getting tired - the refurbishment plans will be amazing- I’d have given it 5 otherwise. Check in was fantastic- thank you Geoffrey- exemplary service. We enjoyed the bar- thank you Eddie and Edmond and Benny - great service. Fabulous location. Housekeeping and room service were excellent. We’d definitely go back. I come to NY for business each year so I stayed in quite a few Manhattan hotels by now. I had a last minute reservation mess up at work so quickly looked within Accor and this one came up day before my trip. I got it booked in a rush but as it turned up - not only price was very competitive vs our company rate elsewhere, it was actually meeting all my needs so I will stick to this hotel going forward. One disappointment was that I received no benefits of elite membership. I cannot book directly on my card as I would breach company policy but still I have chosen Accor hotel loyally so at least they could have shown me some appreciation for that. I know I cannot get points but upgrade or drink voucher would be good token of appreciation. I think it is lack of good customer service and goodwill which is typical to the service industry in NYC. They however pride themselves on bringing French to US but it is not reflected in the attitude. Moving on to actual hotel. I was allocated corner room on 8th floor which had no view and made for a dark room but was peaceful which I still preferred. I could properly open the window - I cannot stress how rare this is in NY hotels so it was a massive plus. Aircon was off, window was on. This coupled with very comfortable bed gave me best chances of good night sleep despite the jetlag. Bedroom was of a good size with sitting area and big wardrobe. This is also important when you are there for 5 nights and have different outfit for each day. Iron is provided. In superior room you also have nice bathrobes and slippers - these were unavailable in other American hotels - unless I chased. As you can see on my photos -marble bathroom was huge for NY standards. I never had bathtub before in this city and separate walk in shower was fantastic. There was plenty of room for toiletries around the sink. They also provide Balmain toiletries mounted to the wall - full range from shampoo to body lotion so you can skip taking quite a few things with you as they are good quality. There is small bridge at your disposal but no tea making tray - this is important for some - I really missed being able to make camomile tea before bed. Housekeeping was attentive and diligent. Location is fantastic - I walked pretty much everywhere. In your leasure time - 10 min walk will bring you to Time Square, Rockefeller Centre. 5 min to 5th Ave. Maddison Ave you reach within 15 min. Checkout was cold - nobody asked me how my stay was. They just gave me an invoice. On the contrary concierge team is nice, always helpful with getting you taxi or assisting with the luggage. Overall for the value, comfort and location I will return and possibly my work colleagues will join me too as I was praising the room.

This is a fine hotel for business travelers. It is located on a quiet stretch of 44th Street, but within easy walking distance to both Grand Central and Times Square. In addition to an excellent location, my room was large and comfortable, with ample work space, plenty of outlets and a decent wifi signal. Service was consistently very good.
