Prince Conti Hotel is wonderful. I was allowed to check in early. The room was very clean. My room had two big beds. The TV was big too and had so many options on the guide. There was no window and that was OK. The price was a little cheaper due to that. we had a walk-in shower. The elevator is a little slow, and the staff is wonderful— Mikey from the front desk was great. I ate breakfast at the Conti café. I had the grits bowl. It was delicious. The staff there was nice. The area was safe. And it was perfect with the location on Bourbon Street.

Just returned from 5 nights (2 rooms) and like most everything about the hotel. Friendly staff, clean rooms, and well secured. The one thing irritating about both rooms is that the shower doors do not completely close. This results in a messy, annoying swimming pool on the floor. Please fix this! O… more

Just returned from 5 nights (2 rooms) and like most everything about the hotel. Friendly staff, clean rooms, and well secured. The one thing irritating about both rooms is that the shower doors do not completely close. This results in a messy, annoying swimming pool on the floor. Please fix this! On this trip, we did not visit the Bombay Club but have enjoyed it in the past. The Conti Cafe prepared a great Christmas breakfast, really nice people. Danishes could be fresher. Good hotel, great prices and convenient, to public transportation. Although currently, the riverfront and Rampart streetcars are out of service for a period of time. Bus service on Rampart

“Needs to be more friendly at check in.”

First impression was not good, wanted to check in early , said room not ready, but not booked full. Took a walk, had a early lunch, called back at 1 and they said room ready. Much friendly then on. Old fashion building needs some paining in hallways. Room dates back to late 1800's,nice touch, big Tv and ice bed,. Great location 3 minute walk from Bourbon street. Restaurant for breakfast was great. But the evening restaurant lacks. I would use Lift to get around the less expensive way to get around town, For the price nice place to stay , yet close to Bourbon street. Clean and paint hallways, be more friendly at check-in, upgrade restaurant, this hotel be a 4.5 star but as is give it a 3,5 star.

The Prince Conti Hotel was originally built around 1900, converted to a hotel in 1955 as the “Hotel Conti.” In the old days, 1960 thru 1980, there were generally two types of lodgings: Large “Convention / Resort” type Hotels and Motels for short stay travelers. Smaller Hotels from the WWII era rarely survived the soaring 60’s. During the late 70’s and early 80’s an industry changing phenomena came along, B&B’s (Bed & Breakfasts.) In the 80’s Small Luxury Hotels began to become Popular as Hotel Developers recognized travelers’ taste for “Historic Accommodations.” In the early 80’s some innovative hotel developers started taking old, historic buildings and converting them to smaller, luxury hotels. Old warehouses were particularly well suited for this type of conversion because of the simplicity of their sturdy construction that didn’t include preexisting complex plumbing and heating systems. In the early 1980’s Historic Warehouse Conversion Hotels began to pop up, some examples are: the Olde Harbour Inn, and East Bay Inn in Savannah, Georgia, the Harbor House Hotel & Marina at Pier21 in Galveston, Texas, and the Planters Inn of Charleston, South Carolina. These types of Smaller Inns, in my experience, have rooms with high ceilings and large windows. One of the original, Southern, Historic Small Luxury Inns was the Prince Conti Hotel; it was a model for Hotel Developers in the Southeastern U.S. Hope you don’t mind all of this detail, but I find this property pretty interesting and I’m a nerd when it comes to the hotel business, I worked in the industry for quite a while. The Prince Conti underwent some extensive structure improvements in 2012 and cosmetic upgrades during the Ovid period. I booked our two-bed room at the Prince Conti, at a really reasonable rate, through the Hotel’s website. The Prince Conti is a Valentino Family Hotel, this group of French Quarter Hotels really provides things I look for; Good Ratings on Tripadvisor, Location, Cleanliness, Reasonable Price, did I mention Historic, Architectural Uniqueness? The unexpected bonus with the Prince Conti is a highly rated restaurant and bar. The Valentino Family Members actually manage their hotels, and restaurants and are a highly regarded Native New Orleans Family. A newer Valentino property is the development of the old Basin Street Railroad Station into a new hotel: “The Brakeman.” Now to some specifics: Rate and location were excellent. The Hotel is one block off Bourbon in the Quarter; within a few blocks of Canal. I paid $102 per night because I bought 4 months in advance on the Valentino website. Cleanliness was excellent, no problems there and the housekeepers were very nice. The service was OK, the young man that checked us in, Michael, was above an beyond excellent and professional; the rest of the front desk staff needs to learn how to smile, maybe put a coat hanger in their mouth! The hotel is pretty secure with the guest key access elevator system and 24-hour Desk Clerk and security. The room condition is another issue. Our room did not have a number displayed on or by the door, it had evidently fallen off and was not replaced during our stay. This may have been the reason why we did not get a requested roll of toilet paper, yes there was only one roll in the bathroom! There were a few rough spots in the room’s interior, but it was overall pretty nice, not old but a few holes in the lampshades and some small separations in the wallpaper seams. The rooms interior was not old and had nice quality wood and paint; the bathroom had a really nice French window shutter that opened to a beautiful view of the French Quarter. The carpet was not old and relatively clean. The walk-in shower door did not close all of the way; I could not fix it so that resulted in using towels to clean up the water. The water pressure is good but after about 9:15am there was no hot water until around noon. The room had a nice TV, propped into a picture frame, sort of unusual, and a good selection of channels. The bed was comfortable, but I did not care for the foam pillows, the linens were clean and a good quality. The mattress was great, but they skimped on the pillows! Restaurant and Bar, here is a sticking point for me, both are run independently from the hotel and you may not charge anything to your room. This is sort of strange because they rack up a $100 deposit on your card when you check in. I have a problem with this because we never drive to NOLA, it's a pedestrian friendly city and the streetcar will take you to the main areas. Why is there a deposit when we don’t have a car and can’t charge food and drink to the room? When I asked to charge to my room both the Coffee Shop waiter and the Bombay Club Bartender told me “Sorry, we are not affiliated with the hotel so you can’t charge to your room.” The Cafe Conti is sort of a Coffee Shop, pretty nice and a good breakfast; it closes early. The Bombay Club is a bar and restaurant that stays rather busy and has entertainment at night, we enjoyed Anais St. John on our last night there. The Prince Conti does represent value for the price but if you're looking for a really nice, upscale hotel there are better offerings. With this hotel you get an outstanding location and a safe, clean hotel room. We slept pretty well, even with the Bourbon Street noise, and felt very safe.
