New Orleans near Canal and Bourbon is very busy and congested and to have a parking garage within steps was so nice. I was able to get in and out of the area quickly and away from the congestion with no issues. The staff were so nice and so attentive. Rooms were very clean! A CVS, Walgreens and convenient stores are within walking distance. You are literally about a 5 minute walk to Bourbon St and Canal. Workout area is on the 14 th floor. They have cables, dumbbells, and treadmills. Only reason I did not give 5 stars was because the rooms are a little dated. I would recommend staying here for your visit to Louisiana.

Our stay was closer to a 3.5. First of all, the hotel is in a great location. It is within walking distance of the French Quarter. As with everywhere in New Orleans, you just have to be cautious when you’re out and about. I did not feel more unsafe around the hotel. People leave you alone if you do the same. You will get the occasional request for money. The check-in staff was okay. I did not feel welcomed nor did I feel they were rude. There really was no explanation as to hotel amenities. If you asked a question, they will answer. The valet were really polite and welcomed us. I felt safe leaving our car. I will warn that the price per night is not exactly favorable at $44 a day, but I understood that when I booked the hotel. There is parking lot that has in and out privileges, but it is not exactly close to the hotel. It will take 10 minutes to get your car, but the valet let us know that when we arrived. The manager on duty did check up on us via text, which I thought was great customer service. This hotel needs updating. The elevators were odd. We always had to step up a little to get in. And the doors closed on members of our party when trying to enter the elevator. Other than going down to the first floor, you need your room key. It was a little annoying when we were getting breakfast on the 4th floor. Most of the time we had secured our key. However, it made me feel safer. The room was fairly clean. The carpet had some stains. The two-queen room was very spacious. It had fridge and microwave, as well as a safe. The desk was very convenient. The number of plugs in the room was very nice, until we tried them. One out of any two outlets did not work or was loose. The layout of the room was great. There was plenty of space for our luggage and things. The beds were a little too soft for our liking. The pillows went flat quite a bit. The bathroom was a challenge. There was plenty of space to put our things. However, there were only two hooks to hang towels. We ended up hanging towels in the closet and on the coat hooks near the room door. We had such a hard time with the shower and keeping the water in the shower. We ended up with either a puddle on the floor or a really wet floor towel. We tried to close the curtain all the way to no avail. The door hinge was rusty. The toilet paper was little far away from the toilet, lending itself to wasting paper. Also, they clean the room every other day, which I was okay with. The best thing about the hotel was the breakfast. The coffee was strong. The meats and potatoes were really good. The family enjoyed the eggs and waffle maker. And their selection of carbs was excellent. Other beverage selections were great. The staff were nice. As someone who works for a company that owns hotels, I would stay in this hotel again if I get another good deal. The location is what really reeled me in. Walk across Canal, and you are on Bourbon St.

I work in the Public Sector, and it has been fourteen years since my wife and I had a real vacation, so the trip to New Orleans was extra special. After some research, we chose the Hampton Inn & Suites on Carondelet Street, Downtown New Orleans. I will lead with DO NOT RENT A CAR AND STAY AT THIS HOTEL! Valet parking is $44 a night; add to that the cost of the rental, taxes, and fuel, and you're paying over $100 a day just for the rental car. Then, if you take in the sights of New Orleans, you will run into parking problems just about everywhere you go. I am accustomed to renting a car when I travel for business, but it was clear that having a rental car would cost just a little less than our stay in the hotel. If you fly in, it is only $36, plus a tip from the airport to the hotel. Uber and Lyft can take you around New Orleans for $20 or less. There are also taxis, and the costs are about the same as Uber and Lyft. Uber and Lyft are more responsive using the app than having the valet call you a taxi. The average time for a taxi was ten minutes compared to five minutes or less for Uber or Lyft. We arrived at the hotel in the evening just as the sun set. Check-in was smooth, and the desk clerk was great. My wife has problems with mobility, so we had to rent her a wheelchair to get around, and we requested a handicapped room. The hotel was built in 1903 and has a "Turner Classic Movie" feel. The overall layout of the hotel was like nothing I had seen in a Hilton family hotel. When you go through the front doors, you have to go past the elevators and make a left turn to find the registration desk, which is not visible from the entry doors. That threw me off, but it wasn't a problem. Once settled in, it was nice to go directly to the elevators after entering the hotel. We were given a handicapped room, and there were problems. I want to lead with this room having one of the best, if not the best, bathrooms set up for the handicapped of any hotel, Hilton, Marriott, or any other. The bathroom was spacious and had a tub with an adjustable handheld shower head. There was a stationary shower head installed high into the wall. Being 6'5" was GREAT for me! Usually, the bathroom in a handicapped room was a "wet room" setup, which can get very messy. Oh! The water pressure was fantastic! Usually, in a handicapped room, the water pressure in the shower is a bit more than a dribble. Okay, here are the problems, starting with the bathroom. There were no tower racks, so there was nowhere to put towels other than curtain rods or vanity. We made that work because the vanity was huge. There were bath towels and washcloths but no hand towels. A quick trip to the registration desk took care of that. The bathroom had a fan that would turn on when you hit the switch. However, all you got was a hum. The fan was not working, although the motor was activated. It sounded as if something was jamming it. Fearful that we would burn the motor out or start a fire, we didn't use it. The air conditioning in the room was strong enough to contain the humidity from the bathroom. The room was well-appointed with electrical outlets, including enough on the nightstand to power my CPAP and charge my wife's cellphone. The problem was that there were also USB ports, which were more convenient for phone charging and powering my MiFi device, but the USB ports were not powered. This was very frustrating. There was a lamp on the desk with two outlets; one worked, and one was not powered so that one could use the desk for our computers. The room had heavy drapes and translucent curtains over the windows. When closed, they made the room dark and somewhat gloomy. The drapes and curtains were controlled by a switch on the wall that did not work, so we didn't have much sunlight. There was enough lamplight to see where you were going, but I like to start the day with the Sun shining into the room. That, too, was frustrating. We learned that the refrigerator was turned off. My wife had medication that required refrigeration, and you can imagine how I panicked when the refrigerator wasn't working. We called the front desk, and an engineer was quick to respond. That was when we learned the refrigerator was turned off. Once it was turned on, it took about two hours to cool down. Fortunately, we had access to ice. Other than these negatives, the stay in that room was good. The beds were wonderfully firm. I go to Hilton family hotels mostly for firm beds. True to all Hampton Inns, a wonderful breakfast awaited us every morning. Breakfast is served on the fourth floor. Our room, #208, was on the second floor, so it was initially a bit odd to go up to breakfast. Usually, breakfast is found in the lobby. This hotel does not offer a business center, so printing something such as a boarding pass is not possible, although the desk clerk told me that she could do that. The staff were delightful and extremely helpful. The location was great and very walkable. Only two blocks to Canal Street where there is a lot going on. We loved New Orleans, but we might find another place to stay. There are several hotels in proximity to this one. Overall, our stay at this hotel was good, but the negatives, nuisances really, started adding up for us. If you are as big and tall as I am, it was a good stay. If you have limited mobility as my wife, has it been an okay stay.
