First off, let me say, that I would recommend this hotel. My wife and I came to town last week for the Black Crowes show at the Saenger theatre and wanted a place where we could walk to everything in the French Quarter+ and the location was perfect. I didn't bother reading some of the reviews so I will be honest in mine to help others out. Check in is 4pm unless you pay $75 to upgrade to 2pm or $150 to upgrade to noon. We upgraded for noon a few days before hand as our arrival was going to be around that time. We got there at 11:30ish and the room wasn't ready (fine!) so we stored our bags with them, gave our number and explored. Our room was ready around 1:30pm but I didn't want to bring it up as the ladies at the front desk were awesome dealing with everyone and made us feel welcomed. The historic building is beautiful as the pictures and the rooms and grounds were fully updated (cold A/C, good paint and fixtures) and we were pleased with our balcony room overlooking the courtyard (so I could sneak a cigarette whenever). Now, the pics show our room (355) faces another balcony but you could also see that you are surrounded by busy streets with a busy parking lot, rail and boats coming up the river. Now, the bed, linens and pillows were comfy as heck but as soon as it is light out you are inundated with loud air horns and both river and road traffic and I assume every room can hear it even with the sound machine we brought and doors closed. This is the only reason I did not give them a five and there is nothing they can do about that. The cleaning staff were great, the porters were great and the pool and adjoining tiki bar looked great but we didn't get a chance to enjoy. I will say that anyone staying there should do themselves a service by eating at Thaihey less than a block away on Decatur for get Thai and cocktails and if you want the best breakfast, hit French Toast going the other way, past Cafe Du Monde. In summary, good value for heavy sleepers or those that wake early. Good historical and food all around the area. Check my pics to see what I am talking about :) Thank you Bienville!

“Great choice for quiet historic small hotel.”

Lovely historic hotel on edge of French Quarter…easy walk to everything. Well maintained rooms with beautiful bathrooms. Lovely historic hotel on edge of French Quarter…easy walk to everything. Well maintained rooms with beautiful bathrooms. Our room was off a roof top “Sun deck” which allowed us a private patio all to ourselves. The tiny pool is in a stunning French inspired courtyard and the coffee room downstairs is quaint and quiet. Overall, a beautiful choice for smaller historic hotel. I’d stay again.

“Bad pool, cold rooms, loud rooms, nice staff.”

This was a return trip for me. I brought my grown daughter. There was an event we were going to. The room we got was so cute lad all the time. And there was no way to change it. I finally complained at the desk, but it took until after ur last day to actually change. So, if it’s too cold for you be sure to speak up right away! Then I really wanted to use the pool. I have a strange arthritis pain that lessens greatly in the pool. And it was one of the reasons why I wanted to return to the Bienville. But it’s been at least 8 yrs since i was last there - and the pool was filthy. Dirt all over the bottom and debris all over the top. I skimmed the pool myself but couldn’t keep up. That is when I discovered there were lots of holes in both skimmers! We were given a balcony room. It was Halloween weekend. We are 67 and 48 yrs old! What? It was so noisy with all the partying in the street that we couldn’t sleep without the tv on til 4am. I like the architecture of Bienville House and the staff is very kind and helpful… but never again! Never, Never again. Even if they moved me to a quiet room, they would have to clean that pool and stop freezing out the guests!

Mum and I went for a three day stay, as part of our explore America trip, This hotel was in the prime position for all that we wanted to do, The room was clean, and smelt amazing. The only downside, the o pool was green, not in colour, but in algae, Also, the younger receptionist was quite rude and couldn't be bothered. We did enjoy our stay though.
