The Nemacolin experience was like no other. The Chateau was so beautiful, the food and entertainment was impressive. Very friendly staff, who made you feel incredibly welcoming. The rooms were immaculate and very comfortable. I was so impressed with the technology of the rooms and hotel. The butler service truly makes you feel special. A two night stay is not long enough to experience everything they have to offer. There is something to do for everyone. I can't wait to get back and do it again!

We just left the resort yesterday after three days that felt like a week. This was our third stay and our first at Falling Rock (we prefer the Chateau which was sold out, presumably because it is the newest of the reimagined properties) Falling Rock is slated to be the final of the three properties to be updated and it shows. While still stunning and architectural, expect updates like better lighting and updated technologies that were added to the other two resorts. The bed and bedding were so comfortable we are asking where we can purchase them for ourselves! The Butler staff was exceptional - if we whispered too loudly that request or accommodation seemed to magically appear. We had the double balcony room which afforded a great early fall view of the 18th and the golfers finishing for the day. We dined at The Peak, Aqueous, Lautrec and had room service. It is impossible to a less than exceptional meal, even when its 'just' a chicken sandwich at The Peak or a crab scramble bedside. The difference between staying 'on campus' at the Lodge or Chateau is that having to take the shuttle back and forth allows you to enjoy more of the property - and more of the fun. We had no idea that evening shuttles included party music, chasing neon lights and bubbles!!! Typically we've enjoyed the more active parts of the property - clay shooting and golf - but this time we opted for pure pampering. The Woodlands Spa and Holistic Center provided each of us different services (6 in total) and we agreed that everything from greeting to farewell was exceptional. When we mentioned our name for a random room charge we were acknowledged 'oh! you're the Soxmans! Happy Anniversary!' as if they had all had a team meeting of the entire resort to make sure we were meant to feel special. And we did. Point blank, it's expensive. Yes, some things are overpriced inexplicably (the sound bath is $400? The carnival style ax throwing is $50 a person?) but things are also rightly priced for the fact that you can't really access many of these fineries or experiences elsewhere (to this caliber.) There are also a ton of included amenities of the resort like mini golf and art tours. What we love most is that we're treated like the everyday people we are - because they're every day people too. Do not expect stuffy arrogance here, expect friendly smiles, excited professionalism, and an absolutely clear desire to make sure our stay was beyond expectations. Hope you give this lovely gem of a resort a try - especially during this time of year with the changing of the leaves and crisp laurel mountain air.

This past weekend was meant to celebrate new life, a moment of pure joy as we gathered at Nemacolin for a gender reveal. My wife and I, along with our 20-month-old son, Nicholas, had decided to stay at the elegant Chateau. From the moment we stepped through the doors, the staff went above and beyond to make us feel special. We were filled with joy as we entered our room, a magical space decorated in soft pink—our little girl was on the way. The attention to detail was astonishing: plush animals adorned the room, and somehow, they knew about Nicholas’s love for dinosaurs. A large dragon awaited him, and though it wasn’t a dinosaur, to him it was close enough. He squealed in delight, clutching his “pterodactyl” as we explored the space. The rest of the day was filled with laughter and adventure. We swam at the Peak, Nicholas running around, his giggles echoing through the water. Later that night my wife had noticed Nicholas was a bit fussy and asked me to go down to the front desk for a thermometer. It was just a slight fever, 99.3, likely due to teething, but the staff’s concern and care were remarkable. They didn’t just provide the thermometer—they sent up a team to check on him. We were blown away by their attentiveness, how they reassured us every step of the way. The next morning, after a quick trip to Dollar General for baby Tylenol, Nicholas seemed back to his cheerful self, and we resumed our plans. We wandered through the resort, from the indoor pool to marveling at the Berlin Wall art and giant fish tanks. As we checked out, the staff graciously allowed us to explore the grounds for the rest of the day. We were thrilled to be able to take pregnancy photos at this beautiful place. Our first stop was Reflections, one of our favorite spots at Nemacolin. It’s quiet, peaceful, and filled with stunning art. We snapped a few photos, cherishing the moment. Nicholas seemed sleepy as we headed to lunch. He drifted off in the van, his small body relaxed in his seat. Then, out of nowhere, everything changed. His hands began to tremble. Foam gathered at his mouth. We screamed, panic rising as we tried to make sense of what was happening. Mary, who was driving, rushed us to the front of the lodge. My wife sprinted inside, begging the staff to call 911. I held Nicholas, watching in horror as he turned pale—then blue. Time stood still. My son, my baby, was limp in my arms, and I thought I was losing him. Within moments, the onsite medical team arrived. One of them thought he was choking, and they immediately began administering back blows and chest rubs, willing Nicholas back to us. Seconds stretched into what felt like hours as I watched, helpless, until I saw him slowly begin to come back. They rushed us inside, stripping off his jacket and boots, trying to regulate his temperature. The ambulance arrived soon after, and they recommended we take him to the hospital. My wife climbed into the ambulance with Nicholas while I gathered our things, waiting for the staff to bring our car. At JW Ruby’s Children’s Hospital, the doctors told us it was a febrile seizure—a terrifying but not uncommon reaction to a sudden spike in temperature. One in twenty children experience it, they said. We spent seven long hours in the ER, exhausted but grateful. We are home now, exhausted beyond words but filled with gratitude. My son is alive. I owe that to the quick, decisive actions of the staff at Nemacolin. They didn’t just provide us with impeccable service—they saved my son’s life. And for that, I will forever be in their debt.
