“Not bad for quick stay”

For a mother/daughter trip, I chose this hotel based on it's proximity and access to the beach for just one, quick night. I had never been to MB before. The immediate area around this hotel is not very nice. I had read other reviews and had a general idea of what to expect, so knowing this, for one night, we just wanted to be in a clean room and be able to step right outside to the beach during the daylight hours. When we arrived to check in, there was a man loitering in the garage with a dog. Not sure if he was a guest or not but he made us feel a little uneasy knowing the area was not great. The parking in the garage is extremely tight spaces. This hotel is divided into two towers with reception in the middle. We were very pleased with our 8th floor ocean front balcony room. The room was clean and comfortable and quiet at night, and the height we were at gave us a great view of the beach as well as the pools below where early the next morning we could watch the feral beach cats walking around :-) The balcony was wonderful except occasionally we could smell cigarette smoke from someone near us smoking on their balcony. Beach access was very good. We were there after a Hurricane Milton so the ocean was a bit rough and extra windy. Because of this, we were not able to enjoy the beach as planned but we did enjoy the pool area for part of an afternoon. Golden Hour drinks and snacks was not open for some reason despite it being a Thursday. I floated in one lazy river which was very relaxing. Not sure if the wind was affecting it but it could use more of a current. The hotel counts the pool towels you take and will charge you $20 each if you don't not return them. I found out they are tracked with a chip and the machines you retrieve and return them to track them. Since we did not want to venture out into the area, we decided to just eat at Reels and had a nice meal in house looking out at the ocean. Waiter (Steven?) was very nice. Free breakfast was okay - it was the usual Hampton Inn assortment but just not as nice or appetizing as I've had at other Hamptons.

“Beautiful public spaces; strong pet odor”

Very nice seating areas and beautiful wood floors and wainscoting in public spaces. Multiple indoor/outdoor pools and hot tubs. Excellent ocean view balconies. Updated decor in rooms. Very nice seating areas and beautiful wood floors and wainscoting in public spaces. Multiple indoor/outdoor pools and hot tubs. Excellent ocean view balconies. Updated decor in rooms. Decent breakfast options. Strong pet odor. Hallways smell like wet dogs. Many large dogs at this hotel. Rooms need better cleaning and maintenance. Missing door mirror in 2nd room along with missing paint and damaged carpet. Flat pillows, mattress very firm. $15 parking garage very dirty.

“DISAPPOINTED”

We are Hilton Honors members since 5/2011. We travel often and our 1st choice is always the Hampton Inn brand. We arrived on 9/4 for a 5 night stay. The check in process was smooth. There’s a lovely quiet sitting area before the main lobby. Our room with a balcony on the 7th floor. The room and bathroom were clean👍. But the ceiling had stains all over it. We were not sure if it was due to a prior leak in the room above, but the stains were dark. This was definitely an unpleasant surprise. After our 3rd night I inquired at the front desk how often the rooms were refreshed as ours had not been touched. I was told .. Oh , you can request when, it should have been explained during check in, but it was not. The staff at this hotel are definitely busy. I’m not sure if they are staff challenged but coming to refresh a room close to 4pm is a sign for me. The breakfast team was always rushing and not once did I see them interact with the guests. Now the best part… there’s a motel next door- Twighlight Surf- we must have witnessed from our balcony and the pool at least 40 interactions of drug sales in the parking lot from an individual with a white backpack- Drive thru and walk-ins. The hotel staff is well aware and extremely apologetic but it is out of their hands. I think Hilton has enough pull to get this situation under control with an administrative visit to City Hall and the Chief of Police. Will we return to Myrtle Beach, maybe but we won’t stay here.
