The Queen Mary is a fabulous place to take a step back in time. The interior of this ship is so authentic, and the exhibits contained inside are quite interesting. Just walking about the boat, inside and out, really sparks your desire to know more about this beautiful period of time. Totally worth the $$$. Also, lunch at the Promenade was delish!

“All aboard”

Me and my wife cruised for the 1st time on Cunard, travelling from Southampton to Belgium. The check in process was smooth and we were quickly on board. We had an inside cabin that was a good size, lovely bed and great shower. The accommodation porter was spot on. Unfortunately there were plumbing issues on the last day that seemed to impact everyone on our deck. Not a great way to leave the ship. Entertainment on board was fantastic. Great range of shows/activities available every day. The main restaurant was okay. I had high expectations but the food was very average. It was however nice to be waited on and to see everyone dressed up. If this isnt for you, there is a good buffet to pick from. We had a drinks package (always a good thing) so enjoyed visiting the different bars BUT a large selection is out of the drinks package price range, especially when looking at cocktails so this was disappointing. Average cocktail is $14 - Drinks package limit is $13.50 We didn't participate in the cunard excursions and opted to go it alone. We are so pleased we did! Overall, we loved the ship and plan to book again, but next time we'll bring our children along.

While I've been aboard the Queen Mary before, we have not stayed aboard until now. The experience was overall what I expected, though fell short on a few things. When we arrived at 9:30 in the morning, we had the VIP tour booked for 10am. I didn't think we were going to get a suite right away, but they had one ready and we were able to settle in immediately. All of the front desk staff were courteous and friendly. The room was a beautiful, large suite. I loved the history behind it all. While the bed was very comfortable and well dressed, the rest of the rooms were empty. It would be nice if they had some vases with flowers, books on shelves, etc, to make it more inviting and relaxing. Still glad we booked it! We took the VIP tour, which disappointed. Between researching the tour and actually booking it, the price was jacked up by $50pp. It was great getting into areas like the First Class Pool and boiler rooms, but too much time was spent on public spaces like the Captain's Quarters and Queen's Salon - rooms you can see without paying. Lunch in the Promenade Cafe was ok. Drinks at the Observation Lounge are always a must and it is such a beautiful room to relax in and think of who all sat there. I was hoping to have dinner at Sir Winston's, but this is the second trip there where it was closed. We ate at Chelsea Chowder House, and it was a bit of a letdown. Food and wine weren't the best, and the white subway tiles and silver ceiling didn't even register that we were on the Queen Mary. Exploring the ship is always the best part, though most rooms are always locked. We had to ask a tour guide to let us into the Royal Salon, and had to follow a group of three into the First Class Dining Room after one had a key to unlock the door. If we weren't able to get into these beautiful rooms, my rating would be much lower. Other main rooms were covered by our tour or we were just able to walk into them. Our suite was on M Deck overlooking the Dark Harbor events. With the portholes shut, it wasn't too terribly loud. My issue is that the Queen's Salon was being rented out for a birthday party that evening and the DJ must have wanted everyone to be deaf on that ship. Our room was just below it and the vibrations and noise kept us up into the night. Being a hotel with thin floors and ceilings, there needs to be a "quiet on the ship" time of 10 or 11pm at the latest! All in all, it is always worth a visit to this historic liner! I hope as time goes by, they continue to restore her to her original state and open up more areas below decks to the public. I would've loved to see some of the second and third class main rooms aboard.
