“Balanced View”

I had trouble finding what I was looking for in past reviews of Boulder Station, so I thought I would spend a little time and write one. I’m just coming back from a 7 night stay, so I was there enough time to get a pretty good feel for the place. Overall, I liked Boulder Station. But like most th… more

“It’s ok”

While this isn’t the nicest hotel or even remotely comparable to properties on the strip, it really isn’t that bad for the price and may be a better option than a lower end motel 6 or something similar. The rooms are very outdated but serviceable if all you want to do is sleep when you are in them… more

  • The top reviews of Boulder Station Hotel And Casino are: I had trouble finding what I was looking for in past reviews of Boulder Station, so I thought I would spend a little time and write one. I’m just coming back from a 7 night stay, so I was there enough time to get a pretty good feel for the place. Overall, I liked Boulder Station. But like most things, it’s a lot about what you’re looking for. I should mention that I’m an older guy from the Midwest that likes poker and sports betting. I also love the slots, but try and stay away from them as much as possible. To me, they are a lot of fun, but also a big money drain. The things I really liked…. Staff: I thought the staff was great. Sure, you will run into someone that’s having a bad day now and then, but overall, just about everyone was nice, polite, and hard working. That seemed to be true across the board from check in, to service staff, and the teams that run the sports book and poker room. Pool: I think the pool is underrated. It’s not that big and no service is available, but to me it was a hidden gem. There are generally two scenarios you will find: Middle of the day on weekends and a few other times, it’s filled with families with kids having the time of their lives. The other scenario is the complete opposite. No one is there weekday mornings, with a few exceptions. It’s basically your own pool and I loved it. I tried to go everyday just be in the sun for a few minutes and get a little exercise. They keep the water cool since it’s so hot right now, which I also loved. Free Drinks: They have free drinks when you are gambling. I am used to Midwest casinos that charge a lot for drinks, no matter what you’re doing. I used this opportunity to try some drinks I wouldn’t normally have. I think it’s nice to be able to drink just about whatever you want, for free. The only downside is that the wine isn’t great, if you are a wine snob, which I guess I must be. Variety: It was nice that they have a poker room, pretty good sports book, movie theater, lots of food options, and a nice pool. Cost / Specials: I think everything on the strip has gotten crazy expensive. Boulder has good rates on hotel rooms and food. I also loved the specials. When I was there, they had shrimp cocktail for $2 and frozen margaritas for $1, free when you are gambling. Both were great. The things that are just OK…... Rooms: The rooms are little dated. Mine was clean and the staff will provide service daily, if you want it. I thought the beds and pillows were pretty good. My room didn’t have a coffee maker. It wasn’t much fun to get up in the morning and have to go down to Starbucks, when you’re barely awake! I think most rooms have older shower heads, trying to restrict waterflow. I know this seems small and picky, but I personally really like a good shower and wish they would fix that. I saw a lot of people on prior reviews talking about noise issues. It’s true that the hotel is a little older, so soundproofing is not at the level of a newer facility. However, to me the noise issue is more about the people staying around you. Is your room next door to the party group, families, a retired couple, etc.? The plus is that you, in general, won’t find the party crowd at Boulder. I know there are exceptions, but I’ve stayed on the strip and downtown, and there are more young party groups staying there. Noise wasn’t an issue for me. Maybe I was lucky? Workout Room: It was small with just a couple of tread mills, an elliptical machine, and some hand weights. Not that much there, but at least they have one. I was always there alone, so I at least had control of the TV. Things I didn’t like…... Smoke: I don’t have anything against smokers. To each his own. However, I think I’m like most people in that I’m never subjected to smoke anymore, so it now bothers me more than it used to. I really think it’s time for Bolder to take the jump and go smoke free. I get the lost business side of the argument, but disagree. Side benefit of going smoke free is that it would make keeping everything clean and smelling good so much easier. I didn’t see anyone smoking in the poker room, so that might be smoke free. Surrounding Area: It’s not a great surrounding area. If you are looking for a place to take morning walks and see the sights, Boulder is not your place. I know a lot of people talk about the large number of homeless and hookers. There are more homeless there than you will see at the higher end places. I think the security staff does a pretty good job of taking care of anyone causing issues. I didn’t see a lot of hookers, but maybe I just didn’t notice. Knowing the surrounding area wasn’t great, I just stayed inside, or took an Uber to anywhere I wanted to go. I feel bad ending my review with the “things I didn’t like” list but also didn’t want to start with that. Hope you have a great say at Boulder, if you decide to go there. I did, but acknowledge that I’m a good target for what they have to offer. I appreciate the good things and just tried to avoid the not so good. Thanks to all the nice people at Boulder for making me feel welcome..
