“Not sure we'd be tempted to return to this property.”

Checked in for a 4 night stay recently. I did not ask for handicapped lodgings. We are just an old couple, and are able to move around a comfortable distance, yet the front desk and booking people managed to locate us in a room far from the elevators. I do not know if booking directly with Hilton… more

“Great location but the rooms need some updating”

The high points: Historic building with tons of cool architecture. The location is perfect - Walkable to nearly everything. Really nice breakfast and an evening cocktail reception too. Very friendly staff overall. A special nod to the weekend omelet guy at breakfast. This man deserves a raise. The… more

  • The top reviews of Embassy Suites Charleston Historic Charleston are: Checked in for a 4 night stay recently. I did not ask for handicapped lodgings. We are just an old couple, and are able to move around a comfortable distance, yet the front desk and booking people managed to locate us in a room far from the elevators. I do not know if booking directly with Hilton, rather than an OTA would have made a difference. There appeared to be many non-occupied rooms in this large hotel, yet they shuffled us off into a nether region. All this regardless of the fact we paid over $1500. for the 4 night stay. I am not normally a "griper," but an average person with a modicum of knowledge and common sense would have quizzed us on our lodging location preference.(Did I mention there seemed to be many empty rooms?) Our room was passable, but nothing extraordinary. Bath with Good quality towels and furnished toiletries. Lack of places (hooks) in bath for parking clothing. This seems to be the new norm. I just don't get it. Get in the shower, and where to you put your clean stuff (clothing,) or your dirty stuff? Bed comfortable. What's the deal with oversized non-comfortable bed pillows? Shower good, but we had to climb into a fairly high tubs to use same. Dining / living area ok. (Couch & easy chair not particularly comfortable. hanging light over dining table mounted way too low. After banging my head on the light a couple of times I finally moved the table below it, but that light needs to be closer to the ceiling. Electrical outlets are fairly worn in this room suite. power blocks (if of the heavy variety such as those for laptops,) tend to fall out of the outlets. Many outlets need replacing. Appliances (microwave and fridge,) worked well. I never did figure out the operation of the bedroom safe. Better instructions needed, and it's tough to read the instructions due to the darkness in that room area. They have a daily welcome / open house hour with some snacks and 2 free beverages. A nice perk, but neither their choice of snacks or liquor was particularly pleasing, but nice outside patio for the happy hour. No regular restaurant on site, but they do cook a daily hot breakfast that has great choices. Guy making omelets was fantastic, both in cooking skills and repartee. Keep him around as he was totally enjoyable, as were his food offerings. Lots of restaurants in this part of town as well as shopping. Lobby furniture ok, but starting to sag. Ambiance of lobby nothing special Hotel location definitely primo. Free shuttle busses leave from visitors center a block away. We used them extensively..
