“Highly recommend”

Beautiful resort. Even though our room was not a completely renovated room, it was very nice, clean, and comfortable. We all wish we would’ve had more time to explore the resort, but we were busy doing things around Williamsburg. Highly recommend!

My wife and I recently spent 3 nights at the Historic Powhatan Williamsburg and very much enjoyed our stay. I'll pass along my pros, cons, and BIGGEST con below: PROS: I'll pass on first what may be obvious to all but was not to me - especially as I did not do the initial research or reservation: This 'Vacation Club' is not even close to a hotel, but resembles instead a small townhome community. Each suite that we reserved turned out to be either a ground or upper floor set of rooms with separate entrances far from the building where you check in. Good for privacy and/or large family gatherings (like ours). I'm guessing it used to be/may still be timeshare-related? Most of the Williamsburg sights you're likely to want to visit are not far away - namely Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens/Water Country. The hotel itself has nothing withing walking distance, however, so you'll always be using your car (they do have an on-site cafe and coffee shop that we never visited). The furniture throughout our 2- bedroom suite was a bit dated and worse for wear - small fabric stains, nicks in the wood furniture, etc. - but nothing bad. Our bed was comfortable and we slept well. We had all the items we needed to start out our vacation - towels, bedding, a couple coffee packets - and all the kitchen appliances worked well. We went out the first evening to the nearby Publix to get more cream, coffee, coffee filters, snacks and the like. CONS: As I expected, but forgot to ask when checking in, there was no housekeeping during our 3 night stay. No big deal but the one packet of coffee you'll find upon arrival will never be refreshed! Perhaps longer stays get housekeeping. Check-out is 10 AM, which seems a bit early to me. As these are large units, however, I assume turnover is a big process. The walls are thin but since for the most part the person on the 'other side' is someone in your family it's not a big deal. We made a point of getting an upper floor unit so we didn't hear anyone walking above us - and it was an end unit so all was very quiet. And yes I'll add to the chorus of reviews that really don't like the daily mandatory $25 resort fee. We were there on a cool November weekend and did absolutely no 'resorting' (WIFI doesn't count) - why try to hide the true cost of the stay and annoy people who look at their bills closely afterwards? BIGGEST CON (and biggest advice): If you like spending literally hours on the phone just try to adjust a reservation you initially made by calling the 'Vacation Club' - hoo boy. The very brief story is the 'Vacation Club' people appear to be a separate entity from the Hilton Reservation people, and both appear separate from the Williamsburg Front Desk personnel (who will tell you - repeatedly - that they have no direct control over reservations). My sister made a set of reservations for our family - 5 units in all - and worked with a Vacation Club representative to do so. MY ADVICE IS TO NOT DO THIS. Instead each party should make their own reservation on the internet, as you (or at least I) would do normally. I won't go into all the frustration, but I had to adjust my arrival date by one day (MAJOR hassle) and then, when I thought all was set, wanted to cancel my daughter's reservation when her husband became ill. Another MAJOR hassle that was only resolved when Robert at the Vacation Club front desk took care of it for me upon check-in (1 hour of useless phone calls for me, 15 minutes on the phone for the patient and helpful Robert). It all ended well but what a mess they've created on the reservation end (you'll get a big sigh when you mention the 'Vacation Club' to the Hilton reservation people). The property is very large and had a lot of amenities to offer. However, the roadways are very narrow and made parking at our assigned building very difficult. We had a second floor unit and the stairway is very tight and narrow making it difficult to "move in". The doors are extremely heavy and have an automatic closing device that shuts them on you as you are entering. The living room furniture is so hard/stiff it is very uncomfortable - we brought the outdoor patio chairs in off the balcony to sit in. The dressers were low quality with drawers that were very hard to open.
