The front desk staff was great but valet was a bit rude. FYI - if you arrive before checkin, you pay additional parking. We arrived at 1:30 and checkin was 3pm and was told parking would be an additional $20. I ended up parking in the public lot behind the hotel for $30 overnight (versus $40 valet plus an additional $20) and my car was fine. Room was basic but clean. For the price and location, you can’t beat it, but don’t expect a 5 star resort.

Basic. That's how I would describe Hotel Indigo Detroit Downtown. The brand, Hotel Indigo, is supposed to be a boutique-ish brand within IHG that's one step below Kimpton. I didn't get that vibe here. The entire hotel looked and felt like a Holiday Inn Express but with a bar/restaurant. Rooms were basic if not a little institutional feeling. The bedding was cheap polyester blended. Like a Residence Inn or Fairfield. No robes, no slippers, no bottles of water, no corkscrew, and no wine glasses in the room. Bathroom was a tight squeeze but was clean. No bar of soap is provided. You get a hand wash dispenser and a body lotion dispenser at the sink. In the walk-in shower there are dispensers for shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. No mouthwash or any other kind of amenities. Wifi was average. Not super fast but good enough for anything other than YouTube. TV had the normal range of channels but no smart capability. No room service. The food at the bar/restaurant was better than expected. My seared tuna steak was excellent. Others liked their steak. I heard complaints about the burgers. There are no real waitresses. There are two bartenders who wait tables. So, sit at the bar. The wine selection is awful with just one of each major grape varietal. Think low-end grocery store brands. There's no incentive provided for guests to eat or drink here. Not even a meager discount. Considering the number of bars and restaurants in downtown Detroit, I wouldn't recommend eating here unless you were solo or stuck at the hotel. IHG elite status recognition was nonexistent. No suite upgrade even though suites were available. No bellman or doorman. Front Desk never offered assistance with luggage. No newspapers. No Visit Detroit magazine. All things considered, the location is great and within walking distance of everything downtown. Valet parking is expensive considering the number of self-park garages within a 1-block radius. For $100-$175, I'd say Hotel Indigo is an acceptable value. For over $200 a night, the Westin across the street is probably a better value.
