Fort Pontchartrain Detroit, A Wyndham Hotel

“Grew up in Detroit but never stayed at the Pontchartrain before.”

Nice clean room, great staff experience, only problem many of us had was our keys stopped working and had to go down to the desk, and wait in line to get them reset. nice big TV to unwind with at the end of the night, cool wallpaper too. Room was well stocked with tp, and towels.

“Detroit wedding”

Beautiful Hart Plaza and river view. All staff very friendly and courteous. Clean comfortable room. Breakfast buffet reasonable but food was mediocre. Parking $40 per night, but I suppose that's typical for downtown in a large city. Easy walk to Greek town, River Walk etc.

There are a lot of pros and cons and I wrote them down during my stay so I wouldn't forget. My wife and I arrived for the marathon and it was pretty busy, not crazy, but a good amount of people. Front desk was no wait at all, very friendly staff. We get to our room and the TV doesn't work. I called the front desk from the phone by pressing the button and it rang and rang and no one answered. Called again a few minutes later and no one answered. So I emailed Joe (the GM) who sent me a generic email before my stay saying I could email him at any time if I needed anything. No response. I walked down to the lobby and asked for new batteries to see if that was the issue. The guy (super nice) gave me 2 batteries and it fixed the problem. OK - that's out of the way. great. Later that day I went to the restaurant in the lobby. There was maybe 2 or 3 tables with guests and I was 1 of like 3 or 4 at the bar. I ordered 6 wings and 2 tacos. Food didn't come out until 50 minutes later. I couldn't believe how slow they were. The bartender was noticeably stressed out at the 2 other guys working. It was NOT busy and I don't know why it took so long. I gotta say tho - the food was DELICIOUS! It wasn't cheap tho, but very good. Had a couple beers and watched the Michigan game. The next morning (around 5 am) I went to take a shower and turned on the shower and got ready to go in and noticed we had ZERO towels. ooook, well I need a couple towels. Called to the front desk again and no answer. So I went down and the lady was super nice and super apologetic and got me some towels. I told her I kept calling and no one's been answering. She said you need to press '0' on the phone. I was pressing the button on the phone that said 'service'. Glad I figured that out. Wish it said that on the phone tho. Anyway....we got the later sign out time because my wife was running the marathon and she finished about 12 pm (normal check out was 11 am). We got back to our room at 12:30 and our key doesn't work. The elevators were super busy because of all the runners going up and down so I decided to call the front desk on the phone near the elevator. She said she'd send someone up and after 10 mins no one came. I called back and apparently the guy came to the wrong floor and called our room to ask where we were. We're locked out, so wondering why they called the room. We heard it ringing from the hallway. Anyway, finally the guy came back and was fiddling with the lock and changed the batteries and ultimately just got us new keys. We finally checked out at like 1:30 pm and paid the 40 bucks for valet (valet team was great) and left. All in all, the stay was fine, but there are a few issues that need to be fixed. Would I stay here again? probably not, it's outdated and for the price you pay you want top notch things and this place didn't provide that. Great food and staff tho. Joe - the GM....Don't email us saying we can email you with issues and questions and then don't respond to the email. I think that was pretty crappy on his end of things.

“Expensive and outdated”

Paid for an executive king room. Room was small, no microwave, tv was outdated, couldn't connect my phone. The "view" from floor 11 was the building blocking the river. $300 for that room is appalling. I would have not paid more than $150 for that room.
