What a funny place. Our room wasn't as bad as some describe, but staying the night here is definitely unique. Check-in: We found the place on the internet. It is only one of two choices in Chiefland, the other being Quality in nature. Rather than book online, after we drove by both of the hotels in town, we chose this one because of the location being one block off of the highway, and likely a little less road noise. And, Dollar Tree right next door. And the pool looked better. Went in to get a room and asked if she had an upstairs unit. Was told, "I have one right next to the stairs above the office". Ok. When she told me the price it was $17 higher than the internet price. I asked her why the difference, she says, "I can only offer you this price". "So, If I go outside to my car and book the room for the cheaper price, I can come back in and you will see that in your system?". "Yes.", she says. Sure enough.... went outside and booked the room, saving $17. She had the reservation when I came back in, except she gave us a room on the pool side of the hotel, second floor, as far away from the stairs and parking as absolutely possible. NO big deal, we're young. We can carry our stuff. Just thought that was comically punitive. Clearly done on purpose. The hotel was empty as everyone staying there had checked out to go home after the hurricane. Anyway... our room was not bad. We've stayed in worse rooms over the years. (We stayed in a Wyndham in Dallas a couple of years ago that had hookers selling their services in the lobby, but that’s another story). It was mostly clean, quiet, no smells or "palmetto bugs" (as Floridians are keen to call them). Price was fair and the pool was not bad. There were some super-weird people hanging around the parking lot on the other side when we first checked in, but everything was quiet after dark. Hotels can’t keep weird people from checking in. That would be unfair. The only quirk with the room other than the location was that the room she gave us had no privacy curtain. Just a sheer curtain over the window between decorative drapes that didn’t close. We ended up using the clips on one of the coat hangers to close the curtain enough that people walking by the window couldn’t look right in at us. And, the breakfast. AHAHHAHAHAHA! Make your own waffles worked fine, juice machine worked fine. “Breakfast sandwiches” were comically small. Cereal in those little twisty dispensers, coffee. That’s it. No yogurt, fruit, pastries. They shouldn’t advertise that the room includes breakfast. Because it is pitiful. And that’s it. You do have to sign an agreement that you will return those little plastic credit card room keys or you will be charged $25 per key to rekey the room. Funny. I haven’t seen that in decades. HA! Anyway. I guess next time we are in Chiefland on business, we will check out the “Quality” at the competing hotel.
