“Not bad, except for the expensive parking and the elevators”

I recently stayed at the Westin South Coast Plaza for my second time ever. If memory serves, my first stay was 14 years ago. That was a very nice stay. I had wanted to go back sooner, but could never find an affordable nightly rate until now. I was a little bit wary at first, because of the negative reviews over the past four years. But the Westin was just as good as I had remembered. Apart from one big exception below, no unusual sights, smells, or sounds noted. The room was clean, quiet, and comfortable, as was the bed, and I slept very well. The location is convenient to South Coast Plaza and the South Coast Metro area. The outdoor swimming pool is heated to a warm temperature, and I enjoyed swimming some laps during my visit. Now here are the downsides, which is what we all read Tripadvisor for. There were only two that stood out. The big one is that the Westin has failed to modernize its elevators. The control panels appear to be battered, decrepit relics of the late 1980s, with RFID keycard sensors belatedly bolted on. While everything else in the hotel has been well maintained or renovated, the elevator control panels are completely out of date and kind of gross. The other big downside is the expensive fee for self parking in the parking garage, which is a long walk from the lobby. The side lobby facing the parking garage lacks a keycard reader for after-hours access, so one always has to go through the main lobby entrance. After much reflection, I decided these downsides are not too bad, and I am giving the Westin a rating of five. The next time I am in Orange County, if I can again find a good rate at the Westin, I would stay there again.

It was our 37th wedding anniversary and we decided to do a "stay-cation" in nearby Costa Mesa complete with a movie, some shopping at South Coast Plaza, dinner and drinks and dessert at the Westin South Cost Plaza where we were staying overnight. We dined in the Great Room Bar and were treated extremely well by our server and Julio Valdes, the Food and Beverage Operations Manager. Both my husband and I are Marriott Bonvoy lifetime Titanium members, but Julio did not know this. He made our evening, complete with excellent cocktails (Ancho Margarita - a MUST try!) and a wonderful chocolate dessert exceptional! We will return next year!

I stayed here because I was meeting a client nearby and my wife could go visit South Coast Plaza, which is across the street from the hotel. It’s just a short bridge walk over the road. Upon arrival, there was two people at the front desk that were very friendly and accommodating. I was given an upgraded room that was almost brand new. The bed was very comfortable. The loveseat and chair looked as though they were brand new and the carpet looked as though it was brand new as well. We were very pleased with the hotel room. When I asked about the exorbitant self parking price and asked if titanium members get a discount for elite Bonvoy Marriott members? At first, I was told that was no discount for titanium guests however he asked me if I had a AAA card and if so, could he see it? I showed him my AAA card and he reduced the $45 parking rate to only $10. I was also given a 4 PM check out which was very handy because I met my client until after 2 PM. Each of the staff people that we talked with, were very pleasant and accommodating. I was very pleased with all of the staff, including the person that served us breakfast. He was very friendly and accommodating and as a titanium member we were given either a $12 credit toward breakfast or the continental breakfast. We chose to get a regular full breakfasts and after the discount was only about $20. The food is very fresh and hot and the service was great. I would definitely recommend this hotel and do not see or understand the negative reviews below. Maybe it’s because people book with a third-party booking service and are not Marriott members or do not book directly. Maybe definitely stay here again when in Orange County .
