This hotel is in the centre of Chicago and if you are English it is possible to walk to all the main attractions. Hotels in the centre of Chicago are expensive and this one represents good value for money. The staff are helpful and when we had a problem with our coffee machine they quickly gave us a replacement. This is an old hotel and the room we were in was small without a wardrobe for our cloths. The bathroom and shower were good. The breakfast was typical Holiday Inn Express and perfectly adequate.

“Great convenient location and clean”

My son and I just stayed here on our summer vacation to Chicago. I chose this hotel mostly based on location and it was pretty reasonably priced for a major chain hotel in the downtown of the 3rd largest city in the US. It is located only 2 blocks off Michigan Avenue and only 4 blocks from the Riverwalk. Therefore we were in walking distance to all the major CTA bus and L stops as well as major shopping, dining and retail. A Trader Joe's grocery store was across the street and 2 blocks down was Pizzeria Uno, with a CVS pharmacy store right next door to that. The hotel itself is actually the old Hotel Cass, one of the oldest and first modern high-rise hotel built in The Loop. The hotel was cozy with some neat old school touches and was very clean and orderly. The staff were friendly and helpful. The only minor flaws or drawbacks was the sometimes slow and very cramped (and original) elevators and a very small room with very little extra space, as our queen size bed and the desk and chair took up pretty much most of the room, leaving very little if any extra space at all. To be fair, they do have larger rooms if you reserve a king size or double bed suite. And things built 100 years ago are just going to be smaller by today's standards. Plus I knew we were only going to be using our hotel pretty much to sleep, shower and eat breakfast. All 3 days we were there we were gone for at least 8 hours and only briefly stopped back in the late afternoon to relax for a bit before heading out for our evening excursions. The hotel did have a fitness center but no swimming pool; I did not partake of the fitness center since I got a great workout walking 15K steps two days in a row. Another main reason I picked this hotel was for the free breakfast bar which my son and I partook of and enjoyed every morning. It just got a bit crowded and busy because of the limited space but we made due. My son really liked the pancake machine and I appreciated the coffee bar. The busy staff were on their toes, restocking the food and emptying the trash at a regular rate. Breakfast offerings included cereal, toast, bagels, delicious gooey cinnamon rolls (my favorite each day) eggs, bacon, sausage and gravy plus assorted fruits, juices and yogurt. Nice, simple and clean hotel sufficient for both families and business travelers and an ideal location in the Magnificent Mile area of downtown Chicago.

This hotel is centrally located to many attractions and it was very clean but like other’s reviews, the room was very small with 2 double beds. The noise from the street was as if a window was open, sirens throughout the night and a garage door across the street that played an alarm every time it opened. Housekeeping knocked on the door before 8am after the night’s sleep already was very interrupted. The temperature in the room definitely didn’t stay consistent and we woke up during the night to a stale, stuffy room. We would stay elsewhere next time even though we prefer the IHG brand. The breakfast was good but very crowded in a small area.
