Quick summary: Comfortable, clean room with nice amenities and very good location to Magnificent Mile. Very convenient on-site parking, for a fee, with free in/out privileges. Friendly, professional staff. A bit tattered here and there, but nothing that affects sleep quality or comfort. We stayed here two nights during the early part of Thanksgiving week in room 1608. The two queen beds were very comfortable, as were the pillows (lots of them.) The right amount of blankets - not too heavy, not too light. HVAC works very well, and is quiet. Free wifi works well, but it is not a secure network. All the amenities you expect of this class of hotel - fridge, coffee/tea maker, large flat-screen TV with lots of channels, iron/board, in-room safe, large work desk. 'Bless them - real hangers that you can easily remove from the rod. Enough furniture to move in comfortably - chest of 4 drawers, and a good nightstand with a drawer that holds all the stuff you want at hand, i.e. power cords, eyeglasses, watch, devices, medications, etc. (I hate that some hotels only seem to put in a bare shelf these days - all the "stuff" is a jumbled mess on top.) I also like that the street-facing wall with large windows also had a cushioned bench that ran along the wall - great for sitting to put your shoes on, holding a spare suitcase (there is also a luggage rack in the room,) etc. Nice size bathroom with plenty of counter space to spread out. I LOVE that this room has a bathtub, standard size. I LOVE a bath at the end of the day when I've been on my feet, and am glad that this one is not one of those high-walled soaking tubs that require a high kick and gymnastics to get in and out of. Wall-mounted shampoo, conditioner, bath gel, and body lotion in a nice Crabtree and Evelyn scent. Spotless housekeeping. There is also a restaurant and bar on site that look nice, but we were usually on the go elsewhere. You are only a couple of blocks from the Magnificent Mile shopping corridor, plenty of restaurants, a nearby Whole Foods, Bally's casino in walking distance a few blocks... Parking here, at the hotel, is $63 a night, with free in/out privileges. That is the going rate EVERYWHERE in the downtown area, it seems, but I'm not sure if other places have free in/out privileges or how convenient to a hotel. So why not five dots? Mostly, the room has signs of wear, including the ergo desk chair with ripped vinyl, and a bathroom door a bit banged up. Also: I always have a gripe with wall-mounted bath toiletries that are mounted too high for someone actually sitting in the tub to use without standing up and down a few times. Having to stand up and down in a bathtub with wet, soapy hands? A litigator's dream. I hate to complain too much as I LOVE a bathtub, not just a shower, and they do have a grab bar. Also: a perfect world has half-and-half, not non-dairy creamer for in-room coffee. A real sitting chair would be nice. Complimentary cookies and/or bottles of water a check-in. So - I'd be happy to stay here again for comfort and location. I was told that they intend to replace that desk chair.
