Weed: If this is your preferred smell, you'll love it here. The smell was overwhelming in the lobby, near the elevators when we checked in. The hotel is run down, could be cleaner (lobby, hallways, elevator, rooms) and was noisy. Traffic, car alarms, odd mechanical sounds and a running toilet in the room plus the train that runs just outside the building resulted in a poor night's sleep. We only had scalding hot water in our room--including the water in the toilet! Apparently they just had work done on the boiler so this was a once-off problem I'm sure they'll fix once they realize all the money (hot water) they are literally flushing down the toilet! The staff was very friendly and I give them kudos for a great attitude and hard work--in particular the woman behind the front desk when we checked in and checked out (same person, sorry I didn't get her name) and the woman setting up and cleaning the breakfast area. Breakfast was fine, bed was fine, but the hotel needs work. They must have some 'trust' issues with their guests as it's their policy to put a $50 hold on your credit card for "incidentals" and give you a red paper ticket you have to produce to have breakfast (not our typical experience at Hampton Inn). Overall I'd recommend staying elsewhere, just because of the condition of the hotel, which is probably the owner's / management's fault, not the staff (who, I want to say again, were excellent). It was fine for an overnight stay if there's nothing else around but we it's definitely not one of the better Hampton Inns we've stayed at.

This place is a bit odd to "parking lot enter". Once inside the front desk staffer was warm and welcoming. Not many were in the properly, ohh, but they are coming due to a key concert in town and I can't wait. The property is dated and in need of some interior room, flooring, and elevator wall (push button) updates. The walls are razor thin. HOW DO I KNOW? At 4pm, we could greatly hear our next door neighbors testing out the robustness of the bedroom furniture (headboard and springs). The sink water runs quite hot, but not the shower /tub water. It was only "warm" at best and the pressure was SO slow, that the bath one of us desired was taking too long and opted instead for a shower. The furniture layout has a table, dresser, fridge & storage, right next to the desk. Sitting at the desk and "wanting" to watch the TV was all one could do. I state "wanting" due to the fridge cabinet blocking the view of TV, even as we swiveled it. Not a great design layout. The breakfast - mildly average - (we will be going to Bo's, shortly). UNCC and the train to the city is within walking distance. There is a BK, that shares the parking lot and many other shops less than 3 min away. The pool is tucked away on the back of the property and the gym was a good size. Would I opt to return stay at this location, probably not, until some upgrades transpre.
