Was able to book a 7 night stay via a certificate from Marriott, so we didn’t have pay the going rate, whatever that might be. BUT, there was a daily $15 RESORT FEE, covering internet, parking and other amenities, which we were not aware of when we booked the unit. Since the room was already paid for, and there weren’t many options for the Avon/Vail area on short notice, we chose to accept the fees. The resort is old, but has been noticeably updated, nicely furnished, and very well maintained, with a full staff of very friendly and helpful employees. “No air conditioning” sounds like a non-starter for the middle of summer, especially when you’re trying to escape 105 temperatures in the DFW area. But I called the front desk, before booking, and was told about the refrigerated a/c unit in the living room, which exhausts the heat it generates up and out through the corner fireplace chimney. It worked great! They also provide a large 3-speed box fan to force the cooled air toward, and into, the bedroom, which also included a 3 speed ceiling fan. So, we were never lacking the desired level of cold air. The negative - both units are noisy. You learn to accept it during the day, or turn them off for a short while, if it becomes too much. The living room’s large tv had a very low maximum volume level? It wasn’t working at all when we checked in, but the service engineers quickly showed up and put new batteries in the sophisticated remote. The stair stepped, and mostly private, covered patios were roomy enough. It is a very large, spread out, 3-story property and is truly a maze of levels, half levels, stairs, and wings, with 3, or more, well spaced entry points. The 2 lobby area elevators were not small or slow. A large City Market (Kroger) supermarket is about a block and a half walk. A Walgreens and restaurants are across the street, and a Subway sandwich shop is on the ground floor of the resort. Also, the local FREE Avon bus stops a just outside of one of the resort’s main entries. We rode it to the main Avon Station, where we disembarked and caught the FREE ECO express bus, nonstop, to the Vail Village parking lot to browse the Vail Farmers Market on Sunday. The local Avon bus has 2 circuitous routes, RED line and BLUE line, which cover the east and west sides of Avon, and run approximately, and reliably, every 30 minutes. Recommended? Definitely! Would we return? Definitely!!
