In town for the Army 10 miler which means the hotel as well as the area was busy, as expected. Staff was happy to hold my luggage when we arrived to the area around 10:00 a.m. Was notified via the Hilton Honors app that my room and digital key was ready by 1:00 p.m. versus the 4:00 p.m. check in time. Room was good sized, clean, and with a view of the Washington Monument. Elevators were always available although a bit of a pain when needing your key card to select destination regardless of going up or down in the the elevator. Breakfast was fairly standard - have had better in some Embassy Suites but still it was adequate with plenty of staff present if we needed anything. Room was not serviced during our second day stay but that may be standard for this hotel. Check out was done via the app and of course was seamless. Overall the location (7 min walk to the Metrorail) was convenient - just far enough away from crowds but still close enough to Whole Foods, the metro, and coffee shops. Not inexpensive ($990 for two nights) but during an event weekend when many hotels sold out it seemed appropriate and we did not regret our stay.

It was okay. The breakfast was good and the nightly reception was as well. The serving staff was very pleasant and helpful. However, I was never greeted or acknowledged by the reception desk whenever I came back to the hotel. The room was nice and big but was NOT cleaned well. I myself cleaned all the surfaces and the shower – which had the previous guest’s hair still in it! The smoke detector was not installed – it looked like it was removed and never put back as wires were dangling from the ceiling (I did not notice this until the day I checked out – very unsafe). The desk chairs were a tweed-like fabric and FULL OF DUST. The corners of the chairs were caked with dust and as I was cleaning them, found debris in the crevasses. ☹ The windows in the room we stayed in were not sealed well and we could not get the room to be warm. It was cold the entire time we were there (3 nights). Never did I see anyone vacuuming the rooms when they were being cleaned. The whole place is carpeted – why not vacuum? Right by the elevators on the 3rd floor, someone had dropped food – like a pastry or something and there were noticeable (big) crumbs. NO ONE cleaned that our entire stay. Upon checking out, my husband was checking the room to make sure we got everything. He checked behind the bed and saw TONS of dust and debris, what looked like a cigarette butt and other things that should be cleaned up. This was room 316. When I stay in a Hilton, I expect a level of cleanliness, and this hotel was truly lacking. And lastly, why do all these hotels lately NOT have an exhaust fan in the bathroom? Everything gets all wet when you take a shower with no way to extract the steam.

The best thing about this hotel is its proximity to Reagan National Airport. The hotel itself is a bit rundown and shabby. We were there in December and had numerous problems. The lobby furniture is ripped in places and springs are nearly popping out. Literally uncomfortable to sit on. The lobby atrium rises 8 stories. So, it is impossible to keep the lobby warm in the winter. We wore sweaters or jackets our whole visit, while in the lobby. The rooms are darkly lit. Our room (515) also showed signs of wear. One electrical outlet by the sink was missing a switch plate and the receptacle was almost out of the wall. Our bathroom sink was clogged. We had trouble getting hot water for showers. The kind desk clerk admitted the entire hotel had hot water problems because of the sub-freezing temperatures. It is a persistent issue. He did send maintenance to clear our clogged drain. There are some positives about the hotel. The included breakfast filled me up. The evening social hour includes two complimentary cocktails per person. Although the free pours feature very low end well brand liquor and wine. It’s still the only free drinks program, I know of, offered by a major budget hotel chain. Every room is actually a suite, so I could watch a movie in the living room, while my wife slept in the bedroom. All in all, I probably wouldn’t stay here again in the winter. In the summer, when hot showers aren’t as big an issue, I might give this place another shot!
