I had family coming to stay with me for the week of the Fourth of July. I did not have much planned for them to do in N.C., so I decided to plan a surprised trip to the DMV area. They had never been to DC, so I figured it would be a great opportunity since they were closer than they had ever been. I was not that familiar with the area as far as where I would want to stay that was reasonable but nice since this was a spur of the moment trip. I contacted several hotels and most of them either could not advise me on distance or was not helpful with the questions that I had to make my decision. One of the hotels I contacted was the Fairfield Inn and Suites located in Alexandra, VA on Duke Street. I had the pleasure of speaking with Maria who delivered the best customer service experience I had received while speaking to someone prior to making a hotel reservation. She was very informative and even provided me with information about the distance the hotel was from the DC area; the best way to travel there, on the Metro; and the best place to watch the fireworks on the Fourth of July. After our discussion, I made my reservations for July 3-5, 2023. A few days later, I realized that I had a previous engagement scheduled on July 3rd, so I had to contact the hotel and see if they would be able to change my reservations, as I hoped there would still be availability due to the holiday. Again, I had the pleasure to speak with Maria who assisted me with changing my reservation to July 4-6, 2023. Because of how my original reservations were made, I had to make the changes online. However, Maria so graciously and patiently waited for me to cancel and rebook my reservation to ensure I would get the room type previously recommended. During this conversation, I informed her that we had an 11am timeslot at one of the Museums in DC and asked if it would be possible for an early check in to change and leave our luggage. She graciously informed me that she would notate my reservation and do what is possible to ensure that this could happen for us. On July 4th, I traveled to Virginia to check into the hotel. When I arrived, I was greeted by a woman at the front desk who was able to locate a room that was available for me to check in. We changed, left our luggage, and went to DC on the Metro. That was a great experience since I had not been on a train since I lived in Chicago. It was an easy trip from VA to DC as Maria had informed me at the time of my original reservation. When we returned, I stopped at the front desk to ask a question and Maria was on duty. She was as pleasant and informative in person as she was over the phone. She told us about the breakfast that is offered at the IHOP attached to the hotel which is opened 24 hours. She checked to see what location my room was in and offered to move us to a lower floor which was great. She also offered a late check out if we needed it. At that time, we did not as we were not checking out until two days later and we would need to be on the road prior to check out. Unfortunately, I discovered the mid-morning of July 5th that I had an unexpected meeting added to my calendar for July 6th, so I had to depart early. The General Manager, Brandon, was working at the front desk at the time I discovered this information, so I had to inform him of my need to check out early. He was fantastic, making sure that I was able to depart without losing any compensation for the room I paid for. He also allowed me to take my time gathering my things and checking out. I appreciated his patience and assistance during that time as we wanted to stay the extra day but was unable to do so. Maria and Brandon, thanks for everything!!! Maria always ended her statements and acts of kindness with “My Pleasure” but little does she know the pleasure was all ours. We were fortunate to happen upon this hotel and was treated with nothing but respect and as if our business mattered. She is an asset to the Marriott organization, and I hope that Marriott appreciates her and all she does for their brand. It is people like Maria and Brandon that make Marriott the hotel brand I choose while traveling. Our stay at this hotel was overall a great experience. Everyone we interacted with did all they could to ensure we had a wonderful experience, and they were genuinely helpful and had a good demeanor. “Nice spot and convenient!”

Nice and clean hotel with plenty of parking. Near tons of eating places and a shopping center as well. Right off 395, so very convenient to all the DC and Northern VA attractions. Nice and clean hotel with plenty of parking. Near tons of eating places and a shopping center as well. Right off 395, so very convenient to all the DC and Northern VA attractions. My room was a king and quite large. Bed was comfortable and everything was clean. SMALL GRIPES: bathroom is cramped to the point you have the door closed to do anything in there. My TV went out the last night. Walls are fairly thin. I could hear my neighbors on both sides. Other than that, I’d recommend it if you’re in the area.
