When visiting our children, we always stayed here when the hotel was the Lorien. We like the boutique, modern atmosphere with friendly, personal attention. The new Archer Hotel seemed almost exactly the same as it was as the Lorien. The staff is dressed in a friendlier business casual style. The scented lobby spray has been subdued -- great for the allergic! There is no longer a wine time in the lobby, but we could still get our morning coffee and tea there instead of wasting coffee pods in the room. The hotel still offers a discount on food and drink at the adjacent wine bar, but the restaurant that used to be part of the hotel is undergoing renovation. This is not made clear in the TA summary. No problem for breakfast as we prefer just coffee and pastry. There's a corner coffee cafe across the street, and the wonderful Misha's coffee and bakery is just a few blocks' walk down King St. We recently stayed at the other boutique hotel across the street, but returned to the Archer. The quality of the room furnishings is superior -- long, stone desk counter with drawers, fridge, two chairs!, high quality bathroom fixtures and bedding. Our only suggestion for improvement is very trivial. Why are the towel hooks positioned over the light switch? Please add another towel hook to the bathrooms.

One of my favorite staycations to go to has always been the Lorien then it became the Archer. Always so comfortable, quiet, accommodating and I love the new addition of the caramels to the rooms. Its such a special little touch. I rarely have had any issues but if I do its sorted immediately. The spa is also a wonderful bonus. Such a relaxing and wonderful gem of a hotel. Definitely worth a view!

“Great Weekend Getaway!”

Nice update hotel with great helpful staff. Very convenient and clean. Nice smaller hotel bar with excellent drinks and appetizers. Room was nice and bed comfortable. Valet was quick and efficient. I would most definitely stay here again!

I was looking for a cute, boutique-type hotel in Old Town Alexandria to stay in for the last weekend of a trip to visit family in Virginia, and the Archer Hotel here fit the bill perfectly. The management/ownership has changed fairly recently from what I read, and it was clear that they were still ironing out some kinks - specific call buttons on the phone didn't work, one of the elevators was out which slowed some things down, and the promised slippers weren't in my room - but none of this bothered me too much. The room and bathroom were clean and beautiful, and there was a lovely robe and locally-made treat ready for me in my room. There were also two books in room for guests' use, which was a lovely, homey touch. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. I loved the two outdoor courtyard spaces you could relax in with coffee or a dessert - one night I ordered a delicious creme brulee from The Tasting Room (now AKB Bar) next door and enjoyed it in front of a fire within the private courtyard only accessible through the hotel. The location was great, being right on Kings Street. It is a healthy length from the Potomac, but there is a free trolley that runs back and forth along Kings Street all day. From the hotel, I was able to take a short, inexpensive ride-share to Mount Vernon, which was beautiful, and then later, take the Potomac taxi over to Washington Harbor and Georgetown, before returning to the Alexandria Harbor that night to eat dinner and then enjoy the walk down Kings Street back to the hotel. I felt very safe walking alone (as a woman) from the riverfront back to the hotel around 9-9:30pm because it was so well lit, with so many people around. It was a beautiful walk with so many historic buildings, cute shops, restaurants, and bars. On Sunday morning before check-out, I ordered room service breakfast from the attached BRABO Brasserie, and while the food didn't blow me away and the blueberry pancakes were a bit burnt, it was enjoyable to sit in the comfy bed to eat and enjoy some coffee. Plus, they offered a $25 food credit when I booked, which was helpful with the price of the unspectacular food. The hotel then held my bags for me while I enjoyed a facial and massage in the Kings Street Spa located in the lower level of the hotel. It was a wonderful, relaxing way to end my trip before I had to head to the nearby Reagan airport for my departure. I would recommend anyone stay at the Archer Hotel in Old Town Alexandria and indulge yourself at the spa as well! For anyone interested, while I did not have my dog with me, they appear to be a pet-friendly hotel as I saw many pups coming and going.
