“Excellent Hotel”

Excellent place to meet up with friends. Great accommodation with superb food both the dinner we had and the breakfasts. Cosy bar area very welcome with the recent weather. Would highly recommend to anyone in the area. We would look to come back in the future.

Enjoyed a nice stay last week in very comfortable surroundings, shame it was only 1 night as the breakfast menu looked very interesting to return for. Very comfortable room and nice to be in a separate building from the main pub. Discreet and attentive staff - thank you

An extremely hectic Sunday service, even the bar area busy. We were a little concerned for our Sunday roasts! Firstly, staff were all polite, smiley and prompt! We were seated in a very pleasant side room which we were grateful for due to the number of families dining in the main area. It was rather chilly though and when mentioned to the waiter, he promptly set to lighting the gorgeous open fire. Our Roasts all arrived piping hot, a mix of chicken, pork and beef with sides of cauliflower cheese. I can honestly say that every element was delicious especially the thick gravy - yum! We could only manage a shared dessert, warm brown with cream and ice cream, very indulgent and again delicious. Congrats to the manager! I don’t know how you and your team manage to look so calm during such a busy sitting and deliver excellent customer service but you did, thank you!

The room and bathroom were great. Toiletries were next level. The staff who serviced the room over our three night stay were excellent. However service for the rest of the visit was unnecessarily below what you would reasonably expect. This started before we arrived. I had a question that I needed to resolve before we arrived and I tried several times to speak on the phone but couldn’t get through. My email was responded to eventually when I sent an email but my question wasn’t answered. Clearly there was a misunderstanding and I said as much and gave my telephone number for someone to call back. It was obvious my query wasn’t resolved but no one came back to me. It meant the hotel missed out on having us book in for dinner for all three evenings. Our first breakfast was a disappointing experience. The buffet had not been restocked which meant there was a limited selection. When I asked about one particular item it was obvious there was no shortage issue just a lack of replenishment. (And this was only 0830). My full English breakfast came with undercooked streaky bacon. I also had to ask for toast and was simply given anaemic white toast that looked like it was from the Tesco value range. We were both apologetic for having to ask for the things we needed but got the impression that this was slightly irritating. We weren’t offered more tea or coffee…. The next two mornings were great improvements. I asked for brown toast and got great quality well cooked slices. And the buffet was well stocked. We loved the ambiance of Highdown and the location.
