I had an enjoyable overnight stay here recently. Plenty of parking and an impressive building from the outside. My room was lovely. Large and spotlessly clean and really quiet during the night ensuring a great nights sleep. The food in the restaurant was good quality and reasonably priced. No complaints at all.

“Will be back”

Visited the coffee shop, quick service with friendly staff happy to help. Delicious coffee and light bite menu of your feeling peckish. The venue is nice and clean, with beautiful amenities, swimming pool, gym and spa facilities as well it’s golf course.

Visited Woodbury Park with my wife for a long weekend recently. It’s in a lovely location and is mostly a quiet and relaxing place to be. It is VERY golf and leisure oriented and you should expect lots of golfers to be staying if you intend to use the hotel. Our room was a good size with a nice bathroom and a huge and very comfortable bed. There was no aircon, though, and even in mid October with the radiator turned off and the window open it felt quite stuffy, particularly at night. Some of the decor is looking a bit tired and many places in the hotel could do with a do over. There is a large atrium in the middle of the hotel which serves as a bar and restaurant. It’s an odd place and feels weird. It’s more like a courtyard and just feels out of place with its high roof and the overall vastness of the place. There is also another bar and restaurant in a separate building which is obviously the club house where the golfer types go after a round. It has a much nicer feel and some nice views as it overlooks the golf course. We had lunch there when we arrived but the next day we were very disappointed to find out it was closed because it is now “winter” and so we were forced to use the weird courtyard restaurant which we weren’t fussed about at all. The food is a mixture of very good and quite naff. I can’t fault the lunch and evening menus, the quality, price and portion sizes are spot on. Don’t expect fine dining but it’s on par with good quality pub grub and the prices aren’t exclusive golf club prices, they are quite reasonable. Breakfast, however, is grim. Leathery bacon, tough sausages, congealed scrambled eggs and hash browns to break your teeth on!. Depending on whether you book with the room or pay on the day it’s £10 or £16. You’d be best off running to McDonald’s for a far better breakfast at under half the price. The leisure facilities were very nice but very busy. My wife’s top criteria for anywhere to stay is that it must have a pool. The pool was in a nice environment and the room had large windows looking over the woodland setting and the atmosphere was really nice too. Unfortunately, like I stated it was quite busy and not helped by half the pool being roped off for training sessions a couple of times we used it. There’s also a jacuzzi next to the pool and in a room adjacent there’s a steam room, sauna and another jacuzzi. We found the chlorine levels in this jacuzzi to be too much to cope with and couldn’t stay for more than a couple of minutes. Maybe it’s because it’s in an enclosed area and needs better ventilation but it was akin to rubbing onions in my eyes. One very annoying issue we experienced was what we assumed (admit I could be wrong on this) is a hotel employee who chooses to arrive on a two-stroke motorcycle in the style of Marc Marquez at 7:00 o’clock each morning. They could be heard for a good couple of miles approaching the hotel, and the victory lap of the car park at 8,000 rpm, rin-bin-binning the guts out of the bike when you’re trying to enjoy a peaceful and relaxing sleep in was really very annoying! The same person left the hotel midafternoon in the same manner in which they arrived! Overall it’s quite a nice and relaxing place to stay. The closure of the clubhouse spoiled it a bit for us though and we really should have been told in advance that it would be unavailable when we checked in. The other restaurant was also a disappointment with its Russian industrial complex feel. But, everything else was quite nice, bar the MotoGP wake-up call.
