“Beautiful hotel and food avoid Spa!!”

Stayed 28/03 Beautiful hotel. Receptionist very welcoming Room very pleasant for the standard room. Room serve and food spot on. Biggest disappointment was the spa. Freezing in the pool and the jacuzzi cold too. All windows open not good!

My partner stayed here for two nights and I joined him for the second day. Seems we were lucky in that the pool and jacuzzi were both functioning during our stay. The man in the spa reception was very friendly but I think he was the only member of staff in the whole place which seems ridiculous as if he's off attending to something else, you are left waiting at the reception to get towels and sign in. There should be other staff in there as the floor in the changing rooms was very wet. But he can't be in all places at once and couldn't be in female changing rooms at all! It would be nice to have a couple of changing cubicles, too, rather than a pretty small communal space. Pool wasn't the warmest but couldn't fault the area other than that. Reception staff in the hotel were pretty helpful and cleaners we bumped into on corridors were all friendly. Our room was OK with a nice view onto gardens and beyond where I watched a fox hanging out, which was nice. The only things I would say with the room is the kettle was filthy and the hairdryer was really sticky. Might be time for a deep clean or just change those facilities for new ones. (Pretty sure the chauffer driven owner could afford a new kettle). The shower was very slippy, so perhaps could benefit on something being put in to prevent accidents. The hotel is obviously geared towards events. We wanted to have food at the hotel before leaving for a gig and the restaurant didn't really feel open or welcoming as it feels like it's laid out for an event in mind and not the actual residents at the hotel. It looked lovely for an event but the bar area for the residents felt very cramped and an after thought. We felt we had to sit in the bar to eat but there was only one table in the bar suited to sitting and eating, and the rest of the tables are very low down. As it seems from other reviews, often the restaurant is out of bounds if an event is on, then this seems very nonsensical and impractical, so perhaps consider different tables. The food itself was very nice. But it really is small, and there was an ever expanding group of non-resident males in the bar who took up a lot of space. Fairly sure there was a bit of shady dealing going on there too but can't be 100%. Would I stay here solely as a treat spa break? Perhaps not. Would I stay here again for proximity to the venue I needed to be at? Yes. But if the pool and jacuzzi were out of order I'd be seeking a partial weekend. No doubt be trying it again next year for the same event, so will be interesting to see any changes.

ROOMS ARE OK NOTHING SPECIAL, WE WERE TOLD WE COULD ORDER ROOM SERVICE BUT THERE WAS NO TELEPHONE IN OUR ROOM, TOILET IN OUR ROOM WAS EXTREMELY LOW LIKE A CHILDS TOILET AGAIN NOT SUITABLE FOR PEOPLE WITH KNEE PROBLEMS. OVERALL PEACEFULL STAY WITH POLITE STAFF.

We picked this hotel as we were visiting a local concert with children. On arrival staff were very helpful, advised us where our room was. (No lifts) We had 2 rooms, they were quite similar in size, only 1 had a fridge. The lighting in the bathroom wasn’t bright enough, the light on the wall didn’t work. Most of the surfaces were clean however there was a big dust issue on door frames, hanging cobweb in the bedroom. We woke in the night as the pillows were not comfortable and our children said the same. There was also a terrible draft coming from the windows, appreciate there old but this isn’t good.. on checking out we weren’t asked how everything was with our stay.. just gave back our keys and left. 😳
