Wonderful hotel, every detail taken care of. We were upgraded to a gorgeous suite and everything about it was super-comfortable and luxurious which made the whole weekend very special. We had lovely breakfasts and dinners. Breakfast has a small cold buffet area but staff were accommodating to bring for example cherry tomatoes and you can order hot food which was delicious. Good coffee! We also had dinner on our first night in the main restaurant which I preferred over the second night when we went to the 1* Michelin dining experience the following night. The Michelin restaurant is pared down decor and although the food was creative, served beautifully and delicious, I just prefer a more casual dining experience but that's just my personal taste. There's a gorgeous lounge with open log fire and we also had a delicious lunch of soup and sandwich here on Saturday. The lounge is a lovely cosy place to sit and read and chill. We also did a mat Pilates class on Friday and it was great! The spa massage was fantastic too. Highly recommend a visit (as a treat because it's not cheap but for the weekend getaway we wanted it was perfect).

“The Best Afternoon Tea experience EVER!”
I went with two friends for Afternoon tea and it was just the most glorious experience! A beautiful place, lovely staff and the afternoon tea was delicious. The ideal place for bonding with friends. Although in Winter you don't get to see the gardens so much we did feel the Christmas vibe!

Whatley Manor is the most beautiful country house and one of the nicest things was even though it was nearly full it was quiet and relaxing with so many places to sit. Big open fireplaces with real flowers and trees at every corner. The staff were very attentive. The food in Grey's restaurant was outstanding, a really enjoyable meal. There are a couple of things I'd like to mention. We arrived and had coffee & scones in front of the fire. We asked for pots of coffee to be told they didn't do this, only cups. Come on it's a five star hotel! Also asked for a jug of water, also didn't do this, only glasses ( which never arrived) The lady on reception at the Spa was brilliant. However the young girl in the spa lounge seemed to have been dropped into the job with no training. We asked her for two teas, roobosh and green, both of which she didn't have she said. We asked if she had any snacks. No, no snacks, not one. We asked if the drinks were complimentary as there were no prices, no she said. As she kept disappearing and other people were waiting we said we wouldn't have tea we didn't want and would wait til we went back to our rooms. Went to make the tea, and low and behold...green tea bags in abundance 😀. The other thing is the hotel welcomes dogs but states no dogs are allowed in the dining rooms. A dog barked and whined the whole way through breakfast as the waitress had said it was quiet and they could come in. I don't think the other 12 plus people would agree! It's not very thoughtful when people want to sit and chat. I'm hoping Whatley Manor will take these things on board as we do enjoy coming but you do expect for the price and five stars it's going to be a league above an ordinary hotel.

Whatley Manor on the face of it is everything you would expect when spending over a grand for 24hrs stay and use of the spa. The staff were welcoming and friendly, the grounds beautiful and expansive, our suite was spacious, clean and pleasant and the spa had pretty good facilities given the size of the hotel. So why the 'average' review? Unfortunately it comes down to money and the overly nitpicking, almost penny-pinching attitude, which totally cheapened our otherwise lovely stay. Firstly if one is paying £869 for a night's stay, one does not expect a service charge of £107 to be added on top. The restaurant also charged for bread and butter, which surely should be part of the welcoming service and finally after leaving my brand new jumper behind (still wrapped in its shop tissue paper) I was charge £6 postage (reasonable in itself), but when the jumper arrived it had been stuffed into a green compost bag before being wedged into a far too small jiffy bag with the postage showing £4.89. Why Whatley Manor needs to take this penny-pinching attitude is beyond me and entirely unnecessary - completely cheapening the whole experience.
