Macdonald Burlington Hotel

“Great Location”

This hotel is very handy for the train station and a perfect location for our strategy meeting which we hold once a year and is in a central location for everyone to attend. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was a good size and the food was good.

Great location near the station and shops. Very friendly and helpful staff. Huge room with two double beds which were very comfortable. Great location near the station and shops. Very friendly and helpful staff. Huge room with two double beds which were very comfortable. The room and bathroom felt a little tired decor wise but were clean and comfy. Didn’t eat at the hotel so can’t comment on food. Bar area very nice. Great for the price and central location. Only thing I didn’t like was not being able to open any windows, it had air on but don’t like sleeping with this on. Room wasn’t at the street side of the hotel so no noise apart from some guests coming back in the early hours.

Great location, just opposite station. Room very spacious but stank of wet paint. Very overwhelming when windows don’t open very wide. Asked to move but was told they had no other rooms. The receptionist said it smells like that as my colleague was doing “some touch ups this morning” which it smelt… more

Great location, just opposite station. Room very spacious but stank of wet paint. Very overwhelming when windows don’t open very wide. Asked to move but was told they had no other rooms. The receptionist said it smells like that as my colleague was doing “some touch ups this morning” which it smelt like the whole room had been done!! Didn’t notice any problems with noise and breakfast was nice

I stayed at the Macdonald Burlington Hotel in Birmingham following a Christmas party. Overall, I’d say the experience was fine, but there were some noticeable issues. The room itself was of a reasonable size, though a bit dated in appearance. A lack of sockets or USB chargers near the bed was slightly inconvenient, but the bed was large and very comfortable, which I appreciated. Breakfast was decent – the food was well-cooked and tasted nice, but the selection was somewhat limited given the price. If I were to stay here again, I’d likely opt to have breakfast at one of the many nearby cafés instead. The biggest downside was the lack of noise insulation. Even after the markets had closed, you could clearly hear people walking outside, and from about 5am, the announcements from the nearby train station platforms became very noticeable. It made for a restless night. Additionally, the air conditioning didn’t seem to function properly or cool the room effectively, leaving it far too warm overnight. In summary, the hotel has potential but could do with updates and better soundproofing. It’s a convenient location, but light sleepers may want to consider alternative options.
