We visited this hotel a few years ago and are delighted to say that the high standards have been maintained. The staff are all happy, helpful and professional giving a great ambiance. Our room (34) was recently renovated and done to a high standard. A huge and comfortable bed, seating area and the best shower ever. The room was spotlessly clean and the extras which included pillow spray and water were most welcome. The food was exceptional and beautifully presented. The hotel has various communal areas which make for a relaxing stay. The success of hotel is measured by the staff and this comes from the top and excellent management. Thank you Stonefield Castle. We will be back!

“Faded glamour and great hospitality”

There's definitely an air of faded grandeur/glamour about the castle but it's still a lovely place to stay. The staff were incredibly friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. They obvioyslybwork really hard, multitasking as waiting staff, receptionists, cocktail waiters, maitre'ds and so on, but did it all with kindness and good humour. Breakfast was delicious and generous and the rooms were well stocked and comfortable. Lots of varied lounge space, a log fire and a cosy bar area all traditiinal enough to make you feel like an extra in an Agatha Christie TV adaptation. This feeling is compounded by the winding paths in the grounds which take you to abandoned boathouses, a private 'island' (from where we saw lots of seals), beaches and woods. We booked well in advance and got an excellent room-rate.

“Beautiful Location with (some) old world charm.”

On arriving, we were welcomed by Alex who was charming and profession. He showed us to room 19 which turned out to be in a 1950s extension block. The room looked like it had recently been refurbished to a degree with a clean and updated bathroom. The bed although in two and linked together was a medium firm one and comfortable and the pillows were ok too which is a positive. The view from the room, being on the loch side was impressive. That evening we decided to eat in the Resturant which is also in a 1950s extension and in my opinion too big and soulless. The music was along to playing death metal music at a funeral. It was not conducive to a formal dining setting. We both had beetroot smoked salmon with apple. The salmon was far too light a flavour for me and it wasn’t a balanced dish. There was some oats of sort sprinkled on it and that added no flavour just confusion. We then had muscle and monk fish tail dishes. Whilst the muscles were tasty, it was an extremely over priced dish and the two small bread roles “plonked” on top of them without any bread knife, side plate or butter was an interesting concept. The monk fish came with succotash. The succotash was bland and the monk fish over salted. No bread, with this one ! So on the whole the food was edible, expensive and bland. Breakfast on the face of it was ok but often they didn’t have many of the dishes. The food quality at breakfast appeared of lower standard in my opinion as for the scrambled eggs I hate them over scrambled and that’s just what they were and why on earth everything has to come with pea shoots on it god only knows. Now for the room in more detail. Staying there in October brought with it a major challenge. The room was freezing cold to the point we used a hairdryer to take the chill off. It wasn’t the cleanest of rooms either with a large amount of dust. Next to the room was a fire exit and that was covered in bird droppings and the laundry rooms along the corridor leading to room 19 looked dirty too. The hotel is really a tale of 2 halves. The original beautiful one and the unloved eyesore. The picture I have added of the beautiful part ! In essence this hotel needs staff and management to look at the hotel and guest experience from the eyes of the customers because that’s the only way this hotel will improve. Does it need to? Well with occupancy of this hotel I would say perhaps not however all that means is it’s resting in its laurels and isn’t looking to improve.

Having been asked for feedback on our stay,and having sent this a month ago with no resonse I have decided to post on here. Just wanted to give some feedback on our stay last Saturday. At the time of our visit I was midway through radiotherapy for breast cancer and preparing for another 6 month stint of treatment so was looking for peace and quiet. Unfortunately,our room,16, did not provide us with this and we were kept away from 3am onwards by loud and incessant snoring from the guest next door due to the very thin walls,in fact I could also hear them using the bathroom. The doors were so poorly fitted,the draught was causing them to rattle so we needed to put a pillow against it to stop it. The topper on the bed was akin to the sort on a foreign holiday where they push 2 single beds together and quite uncomfortable to be honest. Dinner and breakfast was not what we'd have expected from a 4 star hotel yet definitely 4 star prices. Though I must commend the young man who served us,Isaac. He was a lovely young man and an asset to the hotel. The grounds were lovely and we enjoyed our walk around them but not the £5.85 can of alcohol free Guinness we had afterwards! We usually stay in Taychreggan Hotel,on the shores of Loch Awe which is a 3 star hotel and I'm sorry to say,it is head and shoulders above your establishment in every aspect. And I have stayed in better,cleaner and more soundproof Premier Inns,in fact the one we stayed in 3 weeks earlier for £68 was better than the room we paid £203 for last Saturday. I hope this feedback is helpful in some way,I never normally leave reviews or feedback but felt compelled to as we were really quite disappointed.
