What an odd little place - tucked just away from the main road on the fringes of a retail / industrial area - not is not quite what I have in mind when I think "IBIS". It is more of a motel by design, rather than a traditional hotel - the rooms are all directly accessed from paths and walkways and are separate from the main building which houses the reception and bar area. My room faced the car park and the main road but noise was not as issue - apart from some wannabe daredevil motorcyclists one evening who luckily just passed along quickly. The room was interesting. As the rooms all face onto a walkway, the only window also faced onto the walkway. So if you needed any privacy the curtains need to be drawn, making the room dark - they were effective at cutting out the light. But they looked old and tired and I did notice a number of rooms have blinds now replacing the curtains. The room itself was adequate rather than large but the bed was comfortable. The decoration was, in my view, idiosyncratic with some odd light for the style and size of the room. However they all worked. The bathroom appears to have been modernised recently and the shower was effective although a 'grab handle' in the shower would have been useful. If the room decor could be refreshed this would have been a very pleasant room. The reception area and bar / dining area were all clean and worked well - just one oddity. The self service breakfast operated on a 'one-way' system to prevent customers approaching from both ends. However the first thing on the counter are the spreads, jams and marmalades before you've picked up a plate. Then comes the actual selection of continental & cooked breakfast items. Then came the bread & toast at the other end (with croissants hidden round the corner!). It would just make life a tad easier if the butter etc. were presented next to the bread & toast at than end. I know, pernickety but sometimes it's the little things. Lastly the staff were unfailingly polite & helpful which goes a long way in the hospitality industry.

Good facilities. Bar and restaurant simple but nice. Good breakfast. Rooms are compact but adequate. Rooms very clean. Hotel is motel style, ie corridors are external. Could I suggest please that a couple of coat hooks be provided in the rooms as there is no where to hang items - towels can on… more

Could I suggest please that a couple of coat hooks be provided in the rooms as there is no where to hang items - towels can only hang in the bathroom. Reception staff- Sam and Tracie very nice as were the rest of the staff. Thank you. Parking excellent.

“Not cheap compared to others right in town, cramped if more than one in the room. However, clean and comfortable bed.”

Friendly staff, great free parking area. Reasonable bar area with a standard budget motel food menu. Rooms are clean and comfortable but normal Ibis micro size. The lights blazing on full all night are a downer as the curtains still let it creep through.

Asked for quiet room for 5 night stay - allocated room 123 which fitted the bill. Bit strange having window blinds 3/4 closed because of people walking past but got used to it, still enough natural light and privacy. Asked for quiet room for 5 night stay - allocated room 123 which fitted the bill. Bit strange having window blinds 3/4 closed because of people walking past but got used to it, still enough natural light and privacy. Side window opened on secure latch so nice breeze - it was hot and humid and the breeze was very welcome. Good breakfast, great staff especially Tracie and Vi. Unfortunately, husband sat on bed on 3rd night and broke bed at 10pm - moved to room 254. Heavily disturbed by traffic noise from nearby roads, only skylight window for natural light - window didn't open, room hot, humid and stuffy, we had to pinch fan from room 123 to cool room down - if the window could have been opened, it would only have increased noise level from roads particularly from motor bikes. We were offered the chance to move to another room in the morning but as we only had one more night the prospect of moving to a 3rd room was declined - 4 hours sleep first night, 6 hours second night in room 254 thanks to less traffic or brandy nightcap? If I were to visit Plymouth again, I would choose to stay at the IBIS - I would ask for room in specific area eg. room 123 location. If husband hadn't broken bed in room 123, this would have been a 5 star review!!
